Humanitarian Committee

The 2015 Humanitarian Committee had a successful year, raising more than $24,000 for its chosen causes, CanTeen and survivors of the Nepalese earthquake.

event. People really seemed to enjoy the evening, and the committee received a large amount of positive feedback from the night.’’ Sam says, “None of this could have been done without the support we received from volunteers from the College community. Ed Hone and George Cresswell were a popular DJ duo performing at both the Year 9 and 10 dances, and the Year 11 semi-formal. “Mr Grant Bennett provided the technical assistance to get an array of nifty technical events to make the dances unique. Ms Bleyendaal was a positive influence on the committee and, without her, many of the events would not have been possible. Lastly, we want to thank Mr Donaldson and Mr Porter for their assistance and support of the committee.’’ In total, the committee raised the second largest amount by a Humanitarian Committee since its establishment in 2006. With over $5000 raised for Nepal and over $19,000 for CanTeen, College students can definitely be proud of what has been achieved for the community this year by their support of Humanitarian Committee events. 2015 Humanitarian Committee Members: Sam Walker (Head), Richard Goodwin (Deputy), Daniel Keleghan (Deputy), Jonty Brakenridge, Pius Lee, Hunter McKenzie, Matthew Moore, Henry Patterson and Gideon Seddon-Smith

The athletics day sausage sizzle was the first event for the year. On a hot day, the sausages and soft drinks proved to be popular and the committee raised nearly $1000 over the two days of athletics.’’

The head shave was a particularly popular event, raising $7500, the second largest amount raised for CanTeen from previous head shaves. “This one was held on Festival Day,’’ says Sam. “A range of year groups showed their support, with many individuals raising more than the required minimum. Members of CanTeen who came to the event were thrilled with the level of support from a school.’’ The Year 11 semi-formal was one of the committee’s most popular events, with almost all of the year group attending. “Borrowing elements from the 2014 semi-formal, the 2015 committee was able to hone the formula and produce an even more successful
