College – Issue 30

John has worked at Christ’s College as an integral part of the maintenance team since March 2003. It’s great to have people in your team who you can rely on to do a job well, and John always did this. The College is well-established on its site, but needs people who care about the long term effect that they have on the school and this is evident in John’s ability in finishing detail. The whole team is great to work with, but each person brings their unique to see them coming and going and to hear them chatting so freely with her about anything and everything. She has kept abreast of technology, introducing several effective computer programmes to support our students with learning difficulties. Elizabeth has many gifts and she has shared them so generously. We will miss her gentle, calm approach, her infinite patience, her wonderful organisational skills and her sense of humour. Beyond the classroom, Elizabeth was involved in tennis, table tennis, Saturday morning cooking club and as a tutor in School House. She embraced College life, at the same time keeping a healthy work/ life balance, which enabled her to maintain a positive outlook on all aspects of her life. Elizabeth is looking forward to more family time, and hopes to find part-time work outside of education. We wish her all the very best in her retirement and she leaves knowing just how much she has been appreciated by the College community.

College was, he had no hesitation in replying, “Mrs Butterfield”. Helen has also been involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. She participated in rowing, helping for a number of years in the camps at the end of the summer holidays, driving vans and playing camp mother. She also worked hard to set up the College recycling programme and became our conscience as she encouraged us to do our bit to save the planet. Helen was also a tutor in both Julius and Richards Houses and even created a beautiful cross-stitch of School House which hangs in the School House entrance way. There is a plaque underneath which reads. “A gift from the heart.” This sums Helen up.

Helen Butterfield

Helen has ended a long association with College and her connection has been varied. It began with her two successful sons, Nicholas and Richard, both talented academics and sportsmen. During her boys’ time here, Helen was involved in the
