College – Issue 30

THE QUADRANGLE Branches

CCOBA had no shortage of branch events both domestically and internationally over 2015.

The inimitable Brian Le Vaillant entertained the recently revitalised Melbourne branch. Our thanks to David Williamson (9533) for getting things restarted in Melbourne. Auckland Old Boys were once again welcomed to the home of Stephen (6396) and Margaret Gilbert for a mid-winter function. Farewells were made to Simon and Jane Leese who have been regular attendees at the Auckland branch events. In a first for College, we joined with Christchurch Boys’ High to host a function in London. Old Boys and friends were treated to stories from Anton Oliver and Sir Graham Henry on the eve before the Rugby

World Cup opening. Special thanks go to Fletcher Bowley (12003) for organising this event. The Hawke’s Bay branch gathered 32 Old Boys along with partners for their annual function held at the Hereworth School dining room. The evening’s speakers covered a range of topics. A toast was proposed by Michael Gordon (5756), which was followed by the school song with Alastair Spence (6952) on guitar, ably assisted by Mick Ormond (7999). Mike Copeland (7537) organised around 60 old boys from Wellington and the Wairarapa for dinner and a one-minute AGM. The Dockside

restaurant provided the ideal venue for what sounds like a very entertaining evening. The school song was not sung. The much-anticipated Sydney Long Lunch was hosted at the Occidental Hotel attracting a good number of local Old Boys of all ages. Andrew Adams (12439) and Chris Hughes (9840) are both deserving of a round of applause for their enthusiasm.
