College – Issue 29

COMMENTS FROM THE STAGE An actor tells all

Over the years, I have been involved in one junior production, two Sheilah Winn Shakespeare productions, four house plays and four senior productions. I can honestly say that at times I didn’t really enjoy them, right up until the week before performance, when everyone picks up their game and all of a sudden you are having the time of your life. Even having a small part, you see everyone pick up their heads, see the mark for high school productions and decide it’s just not good enough. There is a reason why College puts on such good plays, and no, it’s not all me. It’s when everyone works as a group to put on an awe- inspiring show that makes the people who see it want to join in next year, to have a go and to be part of the on-stage magic.

Never underestimate the power of a live performance, people. There is something in it that makes you stop and think, wow, I want to do that one day. As a Year 13, I can say that some of the happiest days of my life have been on the final night, performing the bows with a group of awesome actors, in front of an audience, clapping for everything they have. It’s something not easily forgotten. To the Year 12s, we Year 13s have passed on the torch to you, so you can take the next step to the top. Good luck to you all, it was a pleasure working with each and every one of you.
