“The set was built for us by Naylor Love with the climbing frames from United Scaffolding. As much as possible was recycled, as we keep everything that could be useful. This year, part of the set from CATS was reconstructed.’’ Ms Peers says the boys really enjoyed the production. “As a writer, Marlowe is much more straightforward than Shakespeare, and so is much easier to understand. There is not a lot of flowery language or metaphor – he just tells the story from the beginning to the end. “There is no doubt the play was a challenge for the younger audience, but there was always enough happening on stage to tell the story clearly and there were also plenty of comic moments.’’ Drama Director David Chambers says director Robyn Peers created a “wonderfully dramatic” play with deep moral implications which captured the audience. “A play such as this is an important part of College life. It gives boys who may not be studying drama a chance to be involved in an experience they will carry with them for life. Ms Peers made an excellent choice of play and helped the boys realise how much drama has to offer and how it can equip them for life – self-management, critical and independent thinking and confident communication.’’
