The boys loved the trip and the idea that these mystery activities were certainly ones to try to get on to,’’ says Mr Levenger. So far this year activities have included:

• surfing at Sumner

• riding a Segway around Upper

• an interhouse touch competition

• regular trips to the movies

driving range and mini-putt course at Ferrymead for the juniors, followed by weekend activities of coasteering for the Year 9s and the high-ropes challenge at the Groynes park for the Year 10s. The annual Year 9 trip to Hanmer Springs for jet-boating was followed by a visit to the hot pools and a trip to watch the Crusaders play the Rebels in the Super XV. Mr Levenger says “Last year we introduced the first mystery activity, where the first 20 boys to sign up, turned up with a few items of warm clothing early on a Sunday morning and jumped on the bus. This was when they were told of the day’s activity: quad-biking at Hanmer Springs.

• laser strike and paintball

• the final trip to the indoor go-karts at Templeton before it is closed

• 10-pin bowling

• watching the second Super XV rugby match against the Cheetahs. Away from the weekend activities, the Year 9 and 10 boys have had a dinner swap with St Margaret’s College, the seniors have signed up for both the Level 1 and 2 Agriculture courses that run one evening a week, and boys are attending a defensive driving course.

In the first few days of the new academic year, the new Year 9 boarders took part in the ultimate race around the local area and then had the opportunity to race in Zorbs on the quad. Later in the week there was a trip to the golf-
