GRANDPARENTS’ DAY Bringing

grandparents into College

What is believed to be the first Grandparents’ Day held at College recently proved to be a great success.

The Parents Association had been suggesting having a Grandparents’ Day and it seemed appropriate to trial the concept once the new Warren Building had been completed and the campus was restored to its former state, says Senior Master Mr Porter. With approximately 200 grandparents in attendance, the day began with a chapel service led by Bishop Coles and featuring the Chapel Choir. This was followed by an opportunity for the boys to show their grandparent(s) about the campus and to visit the classes to see them in action. The feedback on this part of the day was very positive and some staff commented that the grandparents became very engaged in the learning that was taking place. After touring the campus everyone gathered in the Chapman

Room on the ground floor of the Warren Building for light refreshments. The Headmaster, Simon Leese, spoke briefly to welcome the grandparents and also to congratulate the boys who had extended the invitations. “Many of the guests had not been back at College for many years or were not Old Boys and all enjoyed seeing how we had moved forward to create a stimulating learning environment for their grandsons,’’ Mr Leese said. For many people, the lasting impressions of the day were the way the boys enjoyed showing their grandparents their school and the warmth of relationships that many showed so openly.

This will not be the last Grandparents’ Day!
