Tessa Grigg

“Some of them found it mind- blowing to see around the inside of the school, the chapel, the new building, and areas such as the workshops and engineering. It was also good to see how happy the boys were – this really feels like a happy school.’’

I have to tell you he said, “This day added to my lifespan”. He was so lit up when I collected them afterwards and all that evening over dinner. He didn’t stop talking about how Luke was absolutely flourishing and the phenomenal facilities. We just wanted to thank you for this wonderful day and making the elders in our family feel special.”

Tessa Grigg says her son Ted had two grandparents at the day. “I talked to my mother and she was full of Grandparents’ Day,’’ she says. “She was very impressed and went on about what a wonderful day it was, how well organised it was and how well it hit the mark. She came away really impressed and having had a wonderful time, saying they got it just right.’’

Richard Batchelor also has four grandsons at College. He drove down from Marlborough to come to the Open Day and feels the drive was really worthwhile. “It was a particularly proud moment for me when I saw my grandson Finbar Galloway get an Excellent award for his work,’’ he says. “As an Old Boy, I really enjoyed the Chapel service, and was most impressed both with the new building and at the end, with the lunch.’’

Parent Amelia Davis says “I have heard from my mum, Michele, how wonderful Grandparents’ Day was – how great the school looked, the chapel service was wonderful, including the old songs, and how nice it was to see both her grandsons being proud of their school. As a teacher she loved being able to talk to their teachers – a big thanks to Nikki Bleyendaal. They both especially liked seeing all the other grandparents, and chatting to them. She said when she went into the chapel it was a sea of grey hair.’’

Richard Coates

Grandparent Richard Coates has four grandsons at College. For him, it was exciting to see so many there who were not Old Boys and so had never seen around the College except perhaps the assembly hall.
