A modern learning environment
Boys and teachers who have now moved into the new Miles Warren Building are enthusiastic about their new working environment.
The classrooms are bright, light, have up-to-the minute technology and great views, both to the outside and into the classrooms across the corridor. They are warm, they have electrically opening windows and the smell of new carpets. “The Miles Warren Building is a mixture of old and new, retaining the architectural features of the older buildings, which keeps the sense of history and preserves the past, combined with a very modern learning environment.” Antony Goh, Year 13 “I like the amount of light the classrooms receive because of the windows which open up the corridors and being able to look into the teaching spaces on the opposite side. It gives a real open learning environment and feels like a much more communal learning space.’’ Amazir Aknine, Year 13 “As an English teacher, I really appreciate the improved acoustics. I also enjoy being able to see my colleagues
teaching across the corridor. The windows on both sides of the room make it feel so spacious and it is such a positive environment to be teaching in.’’ Ms Melissa Campbell, English teacher “It is great to have all the English teachers back in the same area after four years of working out of Portacoms and in classrooms spread around the school. It is much more collegial and gives us a real sense of community.’’ Ms Chris Rayward, English HOD “Having spent the years after the earthquakes on the move, it is great to be in one place in a comfortable space which makes it more convivial with the boys.’’ Mr Ben Vink, History teacher “The environment is a lot more technical than our last space. I like the view of Upper, the lighting in the hallways and the ventilation with the electric windows.’’ Humphrey Bullen, Year 10.
building. It is what we do inside it that counts. Let’s make the most of our final year at College.’’ Headmaster Simon Leese and Board Chair David Barker also addressed the invited guests. Bishop David Coles blessed the building. The staff Common Room has been named after him and he said he was pleased to have been standing in as a replacement for Reverend Bosco Peters who was on sabbatical leave at the time of the opening.
