NSLHD News June 21

message FROM the acting chief executive Dr Tamsin Waterhouse

It has been a busy fortnight in the district with some wonderful achievements from our staff and some really important milestones. Firstly, I would like to congratulate all of our staff on the strong results in the latest round of the Bureau of Health Information’s latest Healthcare Quarterly report. Our district was one of the best performing in the state and that is testament to all of your hard work. It was a busy quarter in our emergency departments, and an early start to the flu season. What the numbers do not show is the level of compassionate care provided by nurses and doctors, or the diligence of our support staff.

I would like to congratulate Dr Anupam Rao and Susan Hales for their pitch ‘Don’t go breaking my heart’ and Caryl Barnes, Suzy Russell and Vanya Ripley for their pitch ‘Switching channels’. They both received $20,000 to turn their idea into a reality and I cannot wait to see the results. Nominations for Round Three are now open, and I would encourage any staff with an idea they think would improve patient care to email NSLHD-InnovationProgram@health.nsw.gov.au. The flu season looks to be in full swing. It’s not too late to have your flu vaccination, with clinics running until the end of next week. The process is now easier than ever thanks to the online flu portal. Lastly, and importantly, please don’t forget to complete your People Matter Survey as there are just a few days left. The survey is open until Friday 28 June and is a chance for you to provide feedback on how you feel, what worries you and what works well for you in the workplace. Please keep an eye out for Workforce staff for a paper survey or complete it online via the link on the intranet.

You all do a great job - I know our communities are incredibly thankful, and so am I.

I would like to extend my congratulations to Professor Carolyn Sue AM, Professor Alan Cooper AM, Professor Mary Chiarella AM, Dr Joan Castle OAM, Dr Richard Lee AM, Dr Jennifer Kendrick AM and Maureen Dillon OAM on being named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

We are very lucky to have you all within our district.

Warm regards

In Deb’s absence, I had the pleasure of MCing this year’s second Innovation Program Pitch event. It was fantastic to hear such high-quality ideas coming from our staff as to how we can make the patient experience within our district even better.
