Adem Sakal
Adem Sakal was born in Tirebolu in 1956. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology of Ataturk University, Erzurum, in 1082, with the encouragement and support of Dr. Muzaffer Ecevit ( his instructor at university), he started “Riqa” scrip. In 1980’s, he practised “Naskhi” and “Thuluth” scripts from the master of calligraphy and marbling M.Fuat Basar . In 1995, by taking lessons from the world’s most distinguished calligraphers Mehmet Ozcay and Osman Ozcay , he proceeded some significant stages in the art of calligraphy . He still works at Suleyman Demirel University, Fine Arts Faculty, Traditional Turkish Handicrafts Department as an instructor.
AWARDS AND EXHIBITIONS • He took part in the 7th, 8th and 9th Turkish Ornamentation Arts Exhibition organized by Turkish Ministry of Culture. • He won the first rank prize at “Besmele Tugra Competition “by the Ministry of Culture in 1997 • He won the second rank prize at “Jali Thuluth “branch in the 4th International Calligraphy Competition organized by the Research Centre for Islamic History, art and Culture (IRCICA) in 1998. • He got the first rank prize in the 10th Turkish Ornamentation Arts Competition at calligraphy Branch organized by theTurkishMinistry of Culture in 1999. • He won the first rank prize in the 11th Turkish Ornamentation Arts Competition at calligraphy Branch organized by the Turkish Ministry of Culture in 2001. • He won the second rank prize at “Jali Thuluth “branch in the 5th International Calligraphy Competition organized by (IRCICA) in 2001. • He got the first rank prize at “Jali Thuluth “branch with the composition of “Besmale “in the 2nd International Calligraphy Competition organized by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2002. • In 2004, he participated in the“International Calligraphy Exhibition “organized by IRCICA in Dubai. • He won the third rank prize at “Thuluth“branch in the International Calligraphy Competition organized by AlBaraka Turk Financial Instruction in 2005. • In 2006, he won the first rank mention prize at “Jali Thuluth“branch in the International Calligraphy Competition in Abu Dhabi. • He took part in more than thirty exhibitions.
