A. M. The question as to .why the innocent suffer is a big one that would require the covering of a great deal of- ground, but we will try to give you some Scrip ture on this; In the first place, there is hereditary suffering due to connection with the fallen race (Rom. 5:12; Ex. 20: 5). This is an unquestionable fact. Or ganic penalties follow violation of or ganic laws and the whole social organ ism is affected. In the same way tem perate habits convey blessings to those who live after us (Ex. 20:6). There is judicial suffering upon the uhsaved, the penalty upon the evildoer himself (Prov. 5:22; Rom. 1:27). This covers two realms, here and hereafter. The penalty in this life is purposely in complete for the world would be de populated if every sin were visited at once with full judgment. There is corrective suffering upon the children of God (Heb. 12:5-8; 1 Cor. 11:32). This is a sign of God’s love, not His displeasure, and the believer needs constant self-scrutiny in order to correct the faults which God otherwise would remove by chastisement (1 Cor: 11:31). Job, we would say, comes under this class, or possibly the next one. There is preparatory suffering, which fits the saints for the closer fellowship and finer service and is not the result of sin committed by the individual (2 Cor. 12:9; 4:17; 1 Pet. 4:13). Through this God produces patience, humility, love, etc; Some bedridden saints furnish ex amples of what the grace of God can work in a life, and their testimony is often the most powerful appeal Christ has in a , community. There is also voluntary suffering on the part of servants of Christ for the sake of service to man' and loyalty to Christ. This kind may be avoided by those who do not care to have deeper fellowship with Christ (Col. 1 :24). — o — Silent Partners To K. D. M. You ask concerning the necessity of coming out openly for Christ in connec tion with salvation. Someone has said,

*>— --------------------------- ------------------:------------------------- I READY BIBLE OUTLINES * — -----------------------------------------------------------------* The Committed Life 1. Commit Yourself Unto Him. He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day (2 Tim. 1:12). Paul deposited himself in the hands of the Heavenly Banker; and, as the money in the Bank of England is kept safe, in the strong rooms within and by the guard without, so was the ApostleM for he was kept 'by the Holy Spirit within, and by the Lord who encamped round, about him.., . 2. ' Commit Your Soul .Unto Him. ■’‘‘Wherefore let them that suffer accord ing. to the will of God commit the keeping o.f their souls to him. in well-doing, as unto a faithful'Creator” (1 Pet. 4:19). Suffering we shall have, but if we commit the keeping of..-pur souls unto ;the Lord in well-doing,'as. the three Hebrew young men did, we’Asiiall, like them, cut loose our bonds, and gain the company of Jesus, 3. Commit Your,Spirit Unto Him. “Into thine hand I commit.my spirit” (Psa: 31:5). If the'Lord has the control of our spirits, He will control us alto gether. ■ ... 4. Commit Your Way Unto Him. “Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it tb pass” (Psalm 37:5). If \ve commit our way unto Him, we shall never stray from Him. 5. Only a L ittle Thing ’Twas. only / a bright “Good - morning,” That was called from oyer the way, But it left its cheerful memory Through a long and weary day. ? ’Twas only a gentle handclasp That was given in sudden mood, But it made all earth seem brighter So that even work was good. ’Twas only a. bunch of flowers That grew in a garden fair, But all their hidden beauties Were seen by an invalid there. ’Tis only a word or a gesture, An act or a thought of ours, May prepare for unborn millions A path of thorns or flowers.
