COMMUNITY VISITS Garth Wynne gets to know South Island College community
South Island parents and Old Boys have been delighted by the visits from Garth Wynne who, along with his wife Annie, other staff members and Old Boys, undertook a series of community visits last term.
Local friends of College, Old Boys and current parents opened their homes to others to meet Garth, to listen to him discuss some of the plans for the future direction of College. It was a chance for those present to ask questions and to chat one-on-one in a relaxed, friendly comfortable atmosphere. John and Karen Rolleston hosted an evening for about 30 people at their home in Timaru. “It was great to have an evening like this. It was fantastic to see
Garth and to re-establish College’s presence in South Canterbury. All who came enjoyed themselves and were enthusiastic, and we are all looking forward to more contact in the future.” In fact, says John, it has actually inspired the Old Boys’ group to look at reactivating which will be great. In March, George and Susie Gould had a group of between 80 and 100 current and prospective parents, Old Boys and donors at an event at their home in Waipara. They met
with Garth and Annie Wynne, some teachers and staff. Susie was highly enthusiastic about the evening and felt it was a very worthwhile occasion. “It was an absolute pleasure to host the evening and there was a really happy, warm, noisy, family atmosphere with many more people than expected,’’ she says. “Garth was completely charming and everyone felt chuffed to meet him and pleased the school is in good hands.
