MEETING YOUR NEEDS WITH PT

SUDOKU

Say Goodbye to Pain and Hello to Living!

We all have things we need in life, but some needs are more fundamental than others. If we look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (developed in 1943), we understand that we must first meet basic physiological needs before we move on to more complex areas of our development. Such basic needs include food, water, warmth, and rest. This is why food drives are so common — and why many churches and nonprofits focus on feeding and sheltering those in need. They know it’s critical to meet those most basic needs before other things can be addressed.

There’s a similar idea between pain and physical therapy. If your pain “needs” are not being met, it becomes harder to meet other needs in your life. Pain gets in the way of what you are able to do and what you want to do.

The Best Grilled Summer Vegetables

This can cause a ripple effect through your entire life. Pain can take you away from doing the things you love, such as spending time with your kids or grandkids, hobbies, sports, and other activities. It can also impact your life in other ways, such as disrupting your sleep, which can lead to a whole host of other problems.

INGREDIENTS • 1 tsp salt • 1/4 tsp pepper • 1 1/2 tsp dried Italian seasoning

• 5 tbsp olive oil • 2 tbsp lemon juice • 1/4 cup parsley leaves, chopped

If you’re in pain, is it something that is starting to disrupt your life? Has it already?

If your needs are not being met, it’s time to do something about it. With physical therapy, we can help you meet your most basic needs in overcoming pain and discomfort so you can work on meeting your higher needs — such as getting back to the gym, the garden, hiking, or running around the house with the grandkids.

• 1 1/2 tsp garlic, minced • 2 lbs assorted vegetables,

trimmed and halved (asparagus, mushrooms, red onion, red bell peppers, baby carrots, and yellow squash are great on the grill)

DIRECTIONS

1. In a small bowl, combine salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and garlic. 2. Brush vegetables with olive oil and place in a large bowl. Top with lemon juice and seasoning mixture. Toss to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes but no longer than 2 hours. 3. Prepare the grill at medium-high heat. 4. Grill vegetables in batches, cooking 3–5 minutes on each side until browned and tender. (Carrots will cook longer, 6–9 minutes per side.) 5. Remove from the grill, sprinkle with parsley, and serve hot.
