Y10 Bulletin 02.05.25

A MESSAGE FROM HEAD OF YEAR 10

It has been a lovely week with the sun shining, allowing students to enjoy our beautiful green spaces outside during their break and lunchtimes

There is a real focus on careers and post-16 options at the moment for Year 10. Career interviews have begun, which will allow every student in Year 10 to speak to a career advisor to help them consider what they might want to do after they finish school. This will also allow students to be more informed as to what courses will allow them to pursue their chosen path. This week we also had an assembly from staff at Kingston College, talking about the practical course options post-16 such as T levels and apprenticeships. Hopefully students went away well informed and feel able to start thinking about their next steps ahead of the Year 10 Work Experience week, 1-5 July.

Congratulations to Victoria M (74), Gochy A (84) Jasmeet S (66), Isabelle E (114) Sophie B (78), Alice Z (113), Lottie W (84) and Pia H (82) for getting the most epraise points in their tutor groups. Well done!

The Parent and Carers Meetings will take place next Wednesday on the 7 May. If there are any teachers that you were not able to get appointments with that you wish to contact, please email the KS4 hub and we can arrange for that teacher to get in contact.

The Year 10 exams are also coming up, which run from 16 - 27 June. More communication on this will follow shortly and teachers speak to students about what their exams will involve in lessons.

Have a good week and enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend!

MRS PORTEOUS, HEAD OF YEAR 10

BOOK OF THE MONTH

‘Things a Bright Girl Can Do’ by Sally Nicholls

Set in the early twentieth century, this novel follows three brave young women as they all become involved in the Suffragette movement. I loved how Nicholls brought the time period to life, showing what it felt like to be a woman and girl during that turbulent time. But if historical novels aren’t usually your thing, don’t be put off. It feels really modern and fresh, exploring issues like class differences as the three main characters come from different backgrounds. There is also a beautiful love story between two of the characters. It has something for everyone!
