ACCESSIBILITY STUDIES

Complete your certificate in one 10-week summer session or gradually over the course of a year. This new certificate prepares students to understand accessibility by applying universal design principles to all fields of study and careers: from business to sociology. Accessibility Studies provides opportunities to learn about barriers that exclude people with disabilities. Moreover, it serves to ensure that every environment will accommodate everyone, regardless of ability. Laws and accessibility requirements directly affect employers in all industries. Having employees skilled in this area brings additional value to an organization. Total Credits: 15 Prerequisites: • There are no prerequisites for ASP 305 or ASP 325 • You must have completed ENG 101 and 102 or equivalent to enroll in ASP 435 • The capstone ASP 485 requires ASP 305, ASP 325 and ASP 435 first. The capstone typically takes more than a quarter to complete but does not require more than one- quarter enrollment. The variable credit is determined by the program team.

This new certificate prepares its students to meet the growing need for qualified cybersecurity specialists. Over the last decade, cyber intrusions have increased dramatically at great social and economic cost. Graduates from the Cybersecurity certificate learn how to identify security risks to systems and create functions to protect against digital attacks. They have careers such as Computer/Network Security Specialists, IT Security Specialists, Security Policy Analysts, and Applications Security Engineers. The Library Media program offers endorsement to the teaching certificate. Individuals completing this 26 credit program will have met the initial level of preparation necessary to direct a learning resources (library media) center in a K-12 school. Completing this program and passing the West-E test will allow you highly qualified status under the NCLB Act. Total Credits: 26

An interdisciplinary program to develop writing skills for professional, technical, and business environments. It is intended to serve professionals already working in careers as well as students planning professional or business careers. Learn the rhetorical requirements for specific forms of written communication, including letters, memos, reports, proposals, promotional materials, and press releases. Also learn effective techniques for editing your own writing for clarity, correctness, and style. Completion of the program with a grade of B- or higher is required for the Certificate. PARAMEDICINE, Advanced Standing – Bachelor of Science

Advanced Standing is an option for currently certified and practicing paramedics to earn their Bachelor of Science degree. This option is made available only for currently certified paramedics who reside in a state that participates in online instruction with Washington State and who received their education from an accredited institution (CoAEMSP). Program Note: About 97 percent of graduates pass the National Registry exam on the first attempt and a job-placement rate of nearly 100 percent. Total Credits: 105 Part Time: 9-10 quarters (11 credits a quarter) Full Time: 6-7 quarters (16 credits a quarter) Prerequisites: • At least 18 years-old at the beginning of the course • A high school diploma or equivalency with a 2.0 GPA or better (a GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred) • Accepted to Central Washington University • Current EMT-Basic / Intermediate certification or equivalent documentation active for 1+ years • EMT experience with approximately 200 prehospital 911 calls with an Advanced Life Support EMS agency • Three letters of recommendation from medical professionals (preferably paramedics). • Successful interview by EMS Paramedic Program Selection Committee • Completion of all General Education requirements prior to enrolling into the major (may be satisfied with the appropriate Associates Degree for transfer) • Completion of college level anatomy and physiology series of ten or more credits with a 2.0 GPA or greater • Completion of EMS 440-Medical Mathematics in the Summer Quarter with a minimum of 2.0 GPA • Completion of Medical Terminology in the Summer Quarter with a minimum of 2.0

Focus on the types of knowledge and skills designed to enhance one's effectiveness as a teacher of health and physical education. Students applying for this cohort program are expected to have teaching certification and either an undergraduate degree in health and physical education or extensive related practical experience. This cohort program allows candidates to pursue graduate-level study in the various levels of literacy. The successful candidate will be able to work as a Reading Specialist or Literacy Coach. Total credits: 46 - this program is sequenced with candidates enrolled in 6-8 credits per quarter.

This online program prepares teachers for the residency principal's certificate. This degree provides options for the various school levels. A 12 credit, year-long internship is part of the coursework. Total Credits: 45

The Sport & Athletic Administration degree is focused on the types of knowledge and skills designed to enhance one’s effectiveness as an athletic administrator or sport administrator. The former includes interscholastic and intercollegiate athletic administration; the latter is focused on sport administration in the sport industry. Note: Because the requirements to become K-12 athletic directors vary between school districts, student’s intent on pursuing careers in interscholastic athletic administration should check into local school district requirements . Prepare for work as a School Psychologist in the K-12 Education System. School Psychologists are trained to help enhance student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development through services such as evaluation, intervention, prevention, and consultation. Are online courses "work at your own pace"? The majority of online classes have deadlines and due dates, just like in-person classes. Online classes require a lot of self-discipline to stay on task and we recommend the use of scheduling tools to make sure students stay on task. How can I search for just online courses? You can search for online classes within MyCWU. In your student center, click “Search Classes”. Choose all the filters you want to apply. At the bottom of the page, instead of search, click “Search Web Classes Only”. View tutorial video. What are the tuition and fees for online programs? Official tuition and fee rates for the academic year (fall, winter, and spring) can be found on the Registrar Services site. Official tuition and fee rates for Summer Session can be found on the Summer Session website. Please visit our "Tuition and Fees for Online Students" page for a full explanation and additional links to helpful resources.

How do I know what the important dates of the quarter are? Academic calendars can be found on the Online Student Resource Center under “Helpful Links” or by visiting, https://www.cwu.edu/registrar/course-information

How do semester credits transfer to Central? Central is a quarter session school. Semester credits transfer to Central at a 1 to 1.5 ratio. For example, if you are transferring in a 4 credit semester course, you would be awarded 6 quarter credits (4 x 1.5=6).

Will I be able to attend a commencement ceremony after getting my online degree? Yes, online students who apply for graduation are eligible to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Online learning requires the learner be disciplined, organized, comfortable with technology and possess the ability to communicate well in writing. Below are 10 tips to increase you success in online courses.

1. Know when assignments are due. Check announcements and the calendar for any changes to the syllabus. 2. Plan. Map out your week and schedule time to do the readings, study and take exams. 3. Check you CWU e-mail regularly and use it for official correspondence 4. Be active in your classes – post on discussion boards, email your professor when you have questions. 5. Use netiquette and courtesy – in all of your communications. 6. When in doubt, ask your professor to clarify an assignment or discuss a grade 7. Use online resources to support your learning – etutoring, career services, etc. 8. Be patient with yourself – learning a new skill and developing new routines take time. 9. Find a study buddy – online doesn’t mean alone. Connect with students in your classes.

10. Connect with your adviser – work smarter, not harder. An adviser can help you map out your courses and provide support.

Don’t forget to celebrate your success! Carve out time to celebrate your hard work and achievements. Although you’re taking on additional responsibilities it’s important to have some down time and recognize your hard work.
