Online learning requires the learner be disciplined, organized, comfortable with technology and possess the ability to communicate well in writing. Below are 10 tips to increase you success in online courses.

1. Know when assignments are due. Check announcements and the calendar for any changes to the syllabus. 2. Plan. Map out your week and schedule time to do the readings, study and take exams. 3. Check you CWU e-mail regularly and use it for official correspondence 4. Be active in your classes – post on discussion boards, email your professor when you have questions. 5. Use netiquette and courtesy – in all of your communications. 6. When in doubt, ask your professor to clarify an assignment or discuss a grade 7. Use online resources to support your learning – etutoring, career services, etc. 8. Be patient with yourself – learning a new skill and developing new routines take time. 9. Find a study buddy – online doesn’t mean alone. Connect with students in your classes.

10. Connect with your adviser – work smarter, not harder. An adviser can help you map out your courses and provide support.

Don’t forget to celebrate your success! Carve out time to celebrate your hard work and achievements. Although you’re taking on additional responsibilities it’s important to have some down time and recognize your hard work.
