Last year, Afghanistan and Iraq veteran Christopher Ackroyd joined as controls as manager at Cotswold Airport after the 20 years with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers Regiment. When Mr Ackroyd, who also served with the US Air Force, joined he described Kemble as having “incredible potential for growth." He also holds an engineering degree and masters in defence studies and strategic leadership management. One of his key roles has been to develop the airport’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), which was described as making the Cotswold business move
commercially viable - in particular for small, privately- chartered aircraft and corporate jets. “Kemble is currently undergoing an operational expansion, this is mostly tied up in our ongoing airspace change proposal to seek agreement with the CAA to implement a GPS approach onto both runways, which will allow us to better receive more corporate jets and enable ASI to receive more airliners,” the airport told Punchline. “This will not be for masses of holiday jets, but about 200 additional corporate jets and maybe a few more airliners over the entire year.” Two new fuel bowsers were moved into place and there is more than talk about some additional hangar buildings to allow corporate jets to be based at the airport. Miami-based World Fuel Services won the tender to supply both jet fuel and Avgas to the airport in July 2018.
