After proving itself the perfect fit for the domestic market, a family firm is laying out plans to get under the feet of county businesses – in the nicest possible way. Founded by old school friends, Dan Leach and Ben Bryon, Gloucester Carpet Outlet has established itself in the county as a first choice for those wanting new flooring for their properties. As you would expect from a good carpet fitting business, the Bristol Road company has made sure it has a firm grip on the its values – focusing on customer service, product and price. “It is a family business,” said Connor Crawford, who has been with the firm two and a half years. “It gives the company a certain ethos – you want to work hard for it. We have approachable staff. We enjoy dealing with the customers.” Mr Leach, 35, who met his business partner, Mr Bryon, 35, at St Peter’s High School in Gloucester, said they had not looked back since starting the business. Turnover is in the region of £3 million and the pair now employ 29 staff, of which 15 are fitters. A team of fitters works six days a week and stock can accommodate “all tastes and prices” – from £2.99 to £500 a square metre and current trends (which favour geometric patterns).
“In the last 12 months we have been growing rapidly – and we are getting called by an increasing number of companies,” said Mr Leach, a father of two who lives in Gloucester. “We have done work for the likes of Roberts Limbrick, Keyway, Gloucester City Homes, Barnwood Construction, EG Carter, Stroud High School and Linden Road Primary School.” The list goes on. Of particular interest to fans of Gloucester Rugby, which the firm sponsors, is when the club’s Kingsholm headquarters flooded in July 2017, causing half a million pounds worth of damage, it was Gloucester Carpet Outlet which was its first port of call. The business even laid some of the artificial perimeter to the rugby club’s hybrid pitch surface, installed last summer. When heavy snow fell last year, much of the county ground to a halt, but the city carpet outlet fitted and completed its 27 diarised jobs. In keeping with its original pledge to remain focused on quality – of product and service - it was offered some major work for the likes of John Lewis and Heathrow Airport, but reluctantly walked – for the moment at least, not wanting to risk disappointing the clients. But it will consider all sizes of jobs – anywhere.
