T’S QUITE INTERESTING TO talk about Kathy Blomquist especially that she named herself a Grandma Krazy—her love of the broadway show
Les Misérables, and worthy to note his motherly affection to children. It began when she was ten. “My mother agreed to babysit a little girl who was around 9 - months old for a few days. Over a month later the parents still had not been seen or heard from. Something about this baby’s situation ignited something within me. I wanted to help and protect her. I knew I wanted to help children like this little girl,” said Kathy. Her experience led her to what she’s right now and what she’s having. Attended at Westminster College and University of Utah majoring in early childhood and education, Kathy taught in the Headstart Program for eight years— something she’s proud of. “I taught in the Headstart Program for about eight years, giving children of poverty a headstart to kindergarten. I also taught in a private school,” she shared. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah and the oldest of five siblings, Kathy had experience what she considers her teens. “During my teens my dad was the number one Rock and Roll disc jockey in the state of Utah and its surrounding areas. He was known as one of the Kay-Pix Six. “He’s a Go-Go! Bob Barnett!” This was one of the themes used on his radio show. He did other fun things for publicity that we got to participate in. There were hunger strikes, demolition derbies and racing cars. I was able to meet the band, The Monkees, when my Dad hosted them on his radio show and in concert. Davey Jones was my heart throb. I thought the Beatles had nothing on him!” When she’s ten, her mother agreed to babysit a nine-month old baby girl for a few days wishing that the parents of the baby girl would come.
