Sunken hot tub and firepit areas allow for unobstructed views of the Columbia River. Ironwood was brought in to create seating areas and add warmth to the sand-finished concrete. The clean lines and low-profile benches along with glass railings complement the modern aesthetic of the home and enhance the view. Basalt columns were brought in and strategically placed to provide a bit of privacy for the Koi Pond. Column rock is a good wall alternative to stacking boulders, Nick says. The site was challenging because of its location on the side of a rocky hill. The goal was two-fold: to create a private area that didn’t attract kids or company and create a space that mimicked nature.
