Objective of PSS and Methodology

Objective of PSS

▪ Identify the connection scheme options (and configurations) for the transmission connection of the SHEP taking into account the existing transmission infrastructure within the vicinity of the plant. ▪ To investigate the impact of the new connection to the grid system as well as the impact of the grid system on the operations of the SHEP. ▪ Assess the ability of the SHEP plant to comply with the technical requirements as stated in the Malaysian Grid Code (MGC), Guidelines on Large Scale Solar PV Plant for Connection to Electricity Networks and the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

▪ Consider the worst case scenario as priority.

Methodology

 Software, cases and scenarios

The primary software to be used for the PSS is PSSE v32. Due to the expected COD the PSSE cases for year 2025 will be used in the study. The study will cover both the peak and trough scenarios of the 2025 TNB network.

Scenarios considered:

– Scenario 1 – 2025 TNB network with peak load [ ATDP2018_PEAK_Y2024_v2.sav ]

– Scenario 2 – 2025 TNB network with trough load [ATDP2018_TROUGH_Y2024_v2.sav]

– Note that the TNB network does not have any significant changes from 2024 to 2025, hence, the cases for 2024 are applicable for this PSS-1.

Methodology  Steady state studies

Power flow study to identify the impact of the SHEP plant on the capacity of the grid system especially across different load areas. The studies will cover the assessment: – Under normal grid condition – Under contingencies where an N – 1 (Category B) contingency sweep across the transmission network (>= 132 kV) will be conducted; and N – 2 (Category C) contingency sweep for the transmission network (>= 132 kV) within the same load area. The different generation output of the plant will also be considered starting with maximum facility output (100%). If issues in the grid system are identified as attributed to the SHEP output then the generation output will be reduced in steps until the output level where it will not impact the grid system is identified. The impact on the grid system thermal capacity, steady state voltage performance and stability as required by the MGC and TSRS will be assessed.

Methodology

 Short circuit calculation – Determine the short circuit ratio at the PCC of the SHEP.

– Both the three-phase and single-phase fault will be calculated. This is to ensure that the generators are able to operate at the calculated SCR level. – And to ensure the plant equipment selected are rated appropriately for the required short circuit rating. – Insignificant short circuit current contribution from the plant to the grid system.
