New Movers Flock to Naples to Escape COVID-19 WHY WE’RE HAVING OUR BEST SUMMER EVER FOR REAL ESTATE
I’ve been in the real estate business for decades, and this is the hottest summer real estate market I’ve ever seen here in Naples. Kimberly and I have been working around the clock buying and selling luxury homes to keep up with the influx of new movers. You might think that the coronavirus pandemic would slow down the housing market, but here in Naples, it’s had the opposite effect: Our little tropical paradise is getting a reputation as a safe haven. In normal times, about 1,000 people move to the state of Florida every day. That slowed down a little bit this spring when the pandemic first hit, but now we’re seeing it grow exponentially. I’d estimate that right now, 2,000 people or more are moving to Florida every day. They’re leaving big cities behind for small-town beach life, and I can see two big reasons why that’s an attractive prospect in mid-2020.
“I’d estimate that right now, 2,000 people or more are moving to Florida every day.”
1. First and foremost, big cities have been hotspots for COVID-19 this year. We’re seeing an influx of wealthy clients moving in from New York City, Newark, Chicago, and other major cities to the north. We’ve even had clients move in from Miami and other metropolitan areas in Florida at much higher rates than in years past. These new residents are looking for space, a slower pace of life, less traffic, fewer lockdowns, and a safe place to live with their families. In the last few months, I’ve had multiple clients tell me they feel pressured to get out of the city because of how much life there has changed and they’re not sure they’ll ever feel safe there again. 2. Second Florida is a tax haven. This might not be the main motivator for new movers at the moment, but it’s likely the factor that tips the odds in favor of our state over any other. Our lack of state individual income tax, estate tax, and inheritance tax makes Florida very attractive to out- of-state buyers.
It’s amazing to see how much Naples has changed from the little fishing village it was when I first moved here 32 years ago. We’ve gained a national reputation for our sunsets, our beaches, and now, our safety. The pandemic hit close to home for me because my wife, Caren, is a doctor, but it’s encouraging to see the real estate industry here is still thriving. As long as there are buyers eager to purchase luxury homes and sellers ready to jump into the market, Kimberly and I will be here to help. We’re working long hours to keep up with demand right now, but rest assured we’ll always have time for you. If you’re in the market for a new home or would like to list with us and take advantage of the influx of new movers, call me today at 239-398-6336.

National Chefs Appreciation Week CELEBRATES THOSE WHO BRING COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
Restaurants have had an especially tough time staying afloat during the pandemic. Most eateries had to discontinue dine-in service, and those that couldn’t adapt to offering takeout or delivery may still be questioning whether they’ll ever be
events and menus, and patrons flock to their favorite places for great food and company and to support the chefs who bring their communities together. HOW CAN I CELEBRATE? Now that many restaurants are opening back up for service at a limited capacity, it’s possible to dine in and further support the chefs who make the food you love. But, if you’re still not comfortable eating at a restaurant, there are plenty of other ways to celebrate. Continue having food delivered or picking up curbside from your favorite places. Whether dining in or carrying out, remember to tip well! You can also post about your favorite dishes on social media or leave a glowing review for your favorite eatery on Google or Yelp. The beauty of this holiday is that celebrating includes doing activities you probably already do, so it’s easy to participate. Chefs play a significant role in the evolution of culture, protection of tradition, and construction of community. Their food brings us together, fills our stomachs, and brightens our moods. We may not have fully recognized all they do for us until recently, but now that we have, we can truly celebrate Chefs Appreciation Week to the fullest.
able to open their doors again. During the pandemic, it became clear to many
of us just how important a role our favorite restaurants play in providing not just tasty chow, but also a sense of comfort and community. Celebrating National Chefs Appreciation Week is a great way to let the chefs who run those eateries know just how much they mean to us. WHAT IS IT? Since the holiday’s inception in 2013, it has most commonly occurred during the third week of August; this year, it’s August 16–22. Restaurants, patrons, and home cooks alike can show appreciation for the art and dedication chefs bring to their craft every day. Several restaurants across the country celebrate with special

CONDOS ARE OUT, SINGLE-FAMILY HOMES ARE IN Why Floridians Are Fleeing Their High-Rises
On April 1, Gov. Ron DeSantis issued a 30-day stay-at-home order for the entire state of Florida. In Miami, Orlando, and even here in Naples, businesses shut down and people were confined to their homes. This turn of events was disruptive for everyone, but it hit Floridians living in condominiums particularly hard.
• Closed pools • Closed fitness centers and sport courts • Closed spas
• The end of group activities • Enforced social distancing from neighbors • Limited elevator usage • Mandatory mask requirements
In contrast, people who own single-family luxury homes still had the run of their properties during the shutdown. They could take a dip in their pool, walk along their private beach, or clink drinks with family members on their dock. It’s no surprise, then, that as soon as Florida reopened, we saw a mass exodus from condos in favor of the single- family home lifestyle. If you have a friend or family member looking to leave their condominium behind and purchase a home, consider passing on our contact information. Kimberly and Vincent have helped hundreds of Naples residents find the luxury
By most estimates, more than a million people in Florida live in condos. In our experience, those who choose luxury condos do so for the amenities: pools with grills and firepits; 24-hour fitness centers complete with group classes, tennis courts, and putting greens; clubhouses that host group activities; full-service spas; and more. During normal times, these luxuries make the downsides of living in close quarters with others worthwhile. But during the pandemic closure, many of these amenities were off-limits and have been slow to return.
Here are just a few of the inconveniences that some people living in condos have been dealing with since spring:

Why We Still Need Travel Agencies
Get the Most Out of Your Trip WITH THE EXPERT ADVICE OF A TRAVEL AGENT
Once upon a time, you couldn’t plan a vacation without using a travel agent. They would book your flights and hotels, provide information about local activities, and point you to the best sites to see. But with the advent of the internet, it seemed travel agencies would become obsolete. However, these services are actually far from disappearing: Nearly 20% of travelers still use an agency. Because the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way people travel for the foreseeable future, travel advisors, as they’re now called, are more valuable than ever.
THEY CAN LOWER COSTS. Enlisting the help of a travel agency isn’t as expensive as the average customer might think. Travel advisors receive a small commission from airlines and hotels when they book your trip, which allows them to keep your travel costs down. Every agency charges different fees based on the package you purchase, but on average, you can expect to pay around $75 per traveling person for an agent to book your trip. With all the added experiences and deals they can find, this cost easily pays for itself and then some. THEY SIMPLIFY THE COMPLICATED PROCESS. The No. 1 reason people use a travel agency is because planning a trip can be overwhelming. You have to research the location, book flights, plan ground transportation, secure lodging, discover activities, and find restaurants. If you don’t travel often or are going to a destination you're unfamiliar with, then tackling everything yourself leaves room for mistakes, stress, and disappointment. A travel advisor makes the entire process as simple as possible so you can enjoy your vacation to the fullest.
THEY GIVE EXPERT ADVICE. If you want to get the most out of your trip, then you should talk to someone who knows exactly how to give you that. Travel advisors undergo training and gain experience with different policies, customs, and travel regulations to get you where you want to go. They will be your go-to experts for what you should do when you get to your destination, especially if you’re traveling to a foreign country or overseas.
