A Hygienist Who Treats Patients Like Family Chelsea’s Passion for People and Oral Health

When you speak with professionals in the dental industry about why they pursued their career, you’ll find that an overwhelming majority of them grew interested from an early age. This makes perfect sense when you step back and analyze the situation. If you grew up fearful of the dentist or dental appointments, you probably wouldn’t try to offset that fear by diving into a career within the industry. Similarly, those currently undecided in college are unlikely to experience an academic awakening that pushes them toward a dental career. Thankfully, there are plenty of individuals like our hygienist, Chelsea, who found inspiration early in life that propelled them toward fruitful dental careers. Chelsea grew up loving her regular visits to the dentist. She saw the same dentist and hygienist throughout her youth. While in high school, Chelsea’s hygienist asked her the age-old question, “What are you planning to study in college?” Like most high schoolers, Chelsea hadn’t given it too much thought at this stage of life. Her hygienist recognized Chelsea’s interest whenever she was in the office, so she encouraged Chelsea to check out a career in the dental field. This hygienist didn’t just make a suggestion, however.

She invited Chelsea to shadow her at work to give her an insight into the job. It didn’t take long for Chelsea to realize that this was what she wanted for her future. After finishing her dental hygiene program, Chelsea returned to her hometown of Charlotte, where she worked for five years. She started growing tired of the big city and spoke often with her college roommate, a hygienist based in Ridgeway, Virginia. Her former roommate’s admiration for the area sparked Chelsea’s interest in relocating. She moved to Eden with her young son before relocating to Wentworth. It’s been such a pleasure having Chelsea on our team. It is incredibly apparent that she loves people and enjoys caring for her patients. Chelsea cares deeply for her patients and does everything she can to help them maintain their oral hygiene. She takes time to listen to her patients and works diligently to build relationships. At this time, I think it’s safe to say that many of Chelsea’s patients feel like family to her! While her patients adore her, the rest of our team feels the same way! Chelsea has been a great addition to the team and helps out whenever she

can. She’s part of the reason why our teamwork and the overall atmosphere at the office are exceptional! As much as Chelsea enjoys our area, she still likes to get out and see the world whenever possible. She returns to Charlotte regularly to visit family and loves going to the beach with her son. When she was in college, before entering hygiene school, she had an opportunity to visit Turkey, Greece, and Italy. She looks forward to returning to Greece one day when her son is a little older. Chelsea is a fantastic hygienist and a wonderful individual. I’m grateful to have her on our team, and I know she will do everything she can to care for our patients. -Dr. Adams

Your Guide to a Family-Friendly Valentine’s Day TOGETHERNESS OVER ROMANCE

Valentine’s Day can be a difficult holiday for many parents. While they’d love to go out for a romantic dinner and enjoy a date night with their spouse, they have to think about the kids, too! Finding a babysitter for Valentine’s Day can be incredibly challenging, so shift gears and spend the day as a family instead of a couple. You can find plenty to do to ensure your Valentine’s Day is fun and exciting for every family member. Here are three activities to try that will help make Valentine’s Day memorable. WRITE LOVE LETTERS. Valentine’s Day is a holiday all about love and romance, making it the perfect time for your family to share what they love about each other. Give your kids and yourself time to write love letters to each family member, writing down what they love about that person and some

should be no different. Instead of taking the kids to the store to pick out their favorite chocolate bars or Valentine’s treats, consider baking something special. Make heart-shaped pancakes for breakfast, or bake sugar cookies and allow everyone to decorate their treats with sprinkles and frosting. You can even bake a red velvet cake or another Valentine’s favorite if you feel adventurous. GIVE GIFTS TO EACH OTHER. While Christmas and birthdays are often associated with gift-giving, you can also give your kids and spouse special gifts on Valentine’s Day to brighten their mood and ensure they feel loved. Flowers, stuffed animals, and chocolates are the go- to Valentine’s gifts, but you don’t necessarily have to stick to the script. Your family will be thrilled by any gifts they receive!

of their favorite memories. It’s a great way to spread joy and show everyone how loved they are. MAKE SOME SWEET TREATS. Valentine’s Day often includes desserts and candies; your event

OUR PATIENTS SAY IT BEST!

“I love this Dentist! He does excellent work. And replaced my front tooth filling 3 times lol it kept coming out. However, it’s in a fragile place, and he stands behind his work. They work with you on payment plans, and they take Care Credit as well. You can’t go wrong here!” –NICOLE S. “Stellar dentist office!! I don’t typically feel the urge to leave reviews for offices, but this one really deserves it. Not only did they take us on short notice, but the entire office from start to finish was wonderful. From follow-ups to their gentle attention toward our 2 year old, everyone we saw and spoke to in the office was kind, attentive and went out of their way to help and give us attention as if we were the only ones there. We just wanted to send a big THANK YOU for making our son’s first dentist appointment easy and painless!! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a great dental experience.” –JENNIFER C.

Boost Your Smile, Boost Your Confidence The Benefits of Cosmetic Dentistry

Are you lacking confidence in your smile? Do you wish your teeth were straighter, whiter, or more appealing? If you answered yes, understand that you’re not alone. Many Americans feel the same way, wondering what they can do to improve their smile and, in turn, their self-confidence. During your first visit to our office, you likely came to us needing a cleaning or treatment as you tried to maintain and improve your oral health, but did you know we also offer cosmetic dentistry options to help your smile sparkle and shine? Some of the most common cosmetic procedures include teeth whitening, bonding chipped or cracked teeth, crowns, veneers, and Invisalign. Some of these treatments only require one or two office visits, but others could take weeks or months to complete, depending on lab turnaround and other factors. After having a cosmetic treatment, you’ll notice some immediate effects. Your smile will be straighter and brighter, making you feel like you look younger and happier, thus

boosting your confidence. You’ll also be more committed to maintaining your oral health, as you won’t want your new smile to fade and deteriorate. There are some downsides to consider as well. Depending on the procedure, your teeth may be sensitive for a few days or weeks after treatment. Many cosmetic dentistry procedures help improve the look and health of your smile. However, it’s important to know that your insurance will only cover cosmetic procedures that are medically necessary. Your insurance carrier will likely cover a crown if it’s affecting your oral health, but if the only issue is appearance-related, they may be unwilling to provide coverage. Check your specific plan to see how they cover cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic dentistry might be the answer you’ve been looking for if you want to improve the look of your smile. Call us today to schedule an appointment and start your journey to a more radiant, straighter, healthier smile.

Appreciate the Wonders of Eternal Flame Falls

A Glimpse Into a Mystery of Nature Earth’s Eternal Flame

Natural gas emissions from the Earth aren’t uncommon; however, the flame that gives Eternal Flame Falls its name is unique in several ways. According to a team of Italian and American geologists who investigated the leak in 2013, the gas is released at a relatively shallow depth of about 1,300 feet underground. The lukewarm shale surrounding its origins is much cooler than the 100-degree Celsius temperatures at the origin point of most naturally occurring flames. Natural gas leaks are usually composed of methane, but the gas fueling New York’s Eternal Flame is a unique blend of 35% ethane and propane in addition to methane. The research team also noted a series of other small gas seeps within the shale layer where the Eternal Flame flare originates. One geologist on the team

theorized that the gas might have been produced within the shale by a different process that scientists have not yet identified. In addition to gas combustion, natural eternal flames can be created by peat fires or coal seam fires, ignited by lightning, human activity, or electricity caused by tectonic stress. Humans often create and maintain eternal flames, too, to commemorate people or events. In the U.S., manmade eternal flames burn at Ground Zero, the site of the 2001 terrorist attacks, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. The hike to view New York’s Eternal Flame Falls is a 40-minute round trip. However, the flame is difficult to access in wet seasons when the river swells to a torrent, so check the weather beforehand.

Visitors to Eternal Flame Falls, a unique, naturally occurring gas flame emanating from the ground near Orchard Park, New York, often describe it with feelings of awe. A natural gas leak from deep in the ground fuels the Eternal Flame, and a waterfall tumbles down from a rock face between hikers and the flame, creating a grotto-like effect that draws scores of visitors year-round.
