ones are with Him and that is far better. Our God does all things well. Golden Text Illustration M a r k 4 :4 0 On May 19, 1845, Sir John Franklin sailed from Greenhithe in command of an expedition for the discovery of the Northwest Passage. Months and years passed, and no tidings of the voyagers reached England. Between 1848 and 1854 no less than fifteen ex peditions were dispatched by England and America In search of the missing crews. Traces of the ships were found in 1850, and at last the remains of Franklin and his gallant men were discovered, far up in the polar regions. Among these remains was a leaf of the “Student’s Manual,” by Dr. John Todd. From the way in which the leaf was turned down, the following por tion of a dialogue was prominent: “Are you afraid to die?” “No.” ' “No? Why does the uncertainty of another state give you no concern?” “Because God has said to me, ‘Fear not . . . When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee’ ” (Isa. 43:1, 2). This leaf is still preserved among the relics of Sir John Franklin in the museum of Greenwich Hospital. —Acts and Facts, by Hy Pickering. Safe in a Storm M a r k ( 4 : 3 5 - 4 1 ) MEMORY VERSE: “Thou art near, O Lord” (Psa. 119:151). AIM: To teach the child to trust the Lord whenever he is afraid. APPROACH: A few years ago, the captain of a ship’ took his little girl with him on a trip across the ocean. On the way, a bad storm came up. The other passengers were frightened. “ A r e n ’t y o u

gy as a laboring man does in eight hour§ of physical toil. True man that He was, Jesus was weary and felt the need of rest. The fact that He was able to sleep in the face of the gathering storm and in the midst of the rolling sea is evidence of His perfect physical health and mental peace. 3.. "Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?" (v. 40). Why did the disciples merit such a re buke on this occasion? Before rebuk ing them Jesus arose and bade the wind cease and the waves be still. But evidently the thing they had done was displeasing to the Lord. They should not have awakened Jesus. They should have known that no ship can go down with Christ on board. They should have been willing to watch through the storm. God’s people need this les son today. God may allow the stbrms to come, but His children can smile at these storms, knowing that no storm can upset the plan of God. 4. "Talitha cumi" (5:41). W h a t Jesus really said was, “Little girl,- lit tle lamb, arise.” It is wonderful and a sure evidence of Chrisfs deity that He brought this little maiden back into this world. But she was brought back into a world of tears, pain, and sorrow. This was a blessing to her parents, not to' the child. She was better off where she was. Sometimes the Lord does not see fit to let us keep our children. If our homes are thus left lonely, let us remember that the little

ago, when the Lord Jesus was on earth, and that night He Jtook care of everybody in a wonderful way. LESSON STORY: The day had been busy. Jesus had speht hours at the seaside, teaching the people, and He was tired. There on the Sea of Galilee, was a ship and “other little ships”— all rocking gently on the blue waves. To His closest friends Jesus said some thing like this: “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake to rest.” And they started. Jesus was so tired that He lay down in the ship with His head on a pillow,
