ancl went to sleep. Suddenly there "was "a great storm of wind, and the Waves beat into the ship, so that it was . i . full” of water (v. 37). The men were afraid. They wakened Jesus, and asked Him a foolish question: “Mas ter,” they said, “carest thout not that We perish?” Or, “Don’t you care if we are drowned?” They sh o il Id have known that Jesus always eares for all who love Him. Though He was sorry that they had not trusted Him, “he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said •to the sea, Peace, be still. . . . And there was a great calm” Kv. 39). The big ship and all the “other little ships” sailed smoothly again on the quiet Water. We should trust the Lord Jesus and not be afraid, for He is able to do any thing that is good for u s ., Object Lesson F ear or F aith 'OBJECT: A roll of white paper. (Use a piece of adding machine pappr 2% inches wide and 4 feet long. Roll tightly until the diameter is approxi mately 1% inches. Paste the outside end, to keep it from unrolling. Print the word “LIFE” on the roll. Wet your finger and place it on the inside of thé roll. Then pull the inside down, until the telescope is approximately 18 inches long. Print down from the word “LIFE,” the words “FAITH LIFTS,” with each- letter on a separate layer.-Push the telescope back together and pull it out again in the opposite direction, with the small end up. Print down to the word “LIFE,” the words, “FEAR LOWERS.” Push the telescope back together before the beginning of the leSson.) n LESSON: This roll of paper has the word “LIFE” written on it. Have you ever wondered why some lives go up and others go down? If we make this roll of paper into a telescope, perhaps we shall ifind the answer. ILift the word “LIFE” and pull the center down.] Letters are appearing on the outside of the telescope. Ordinarily we look on the inside of a telescope, but this one has something on the outside. The word “LIFE” is rising. Now we can read, the words, “FAITH LIFTS.” We shall see whethër this roll of paper can tell us why some lives go down. [Put telescope back into a roll. Pull the center up, and let the word * D- M I - u

“LIFE” go down.] Again letters are appearing on the outside of the tele scope, but they are not the same let ters we saw the other time. The word “LIFE” is going down. We can now read the words, “FEAR LOWERS.” This message reminds me of the time when the disciples were fearful because of the storm. They awakened Jesus who was asleep in the ship and said to Him, “Master, careSt thou not that we perish?” (Mk. 4:38). They were controlled by fear and not by. faith, and were, therefore, downcast. After Jesus had arisen and calmed the sea, He said to the disciples, “Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” (Mk. 4:40). I beUeve Christ would have us learn anew today that fear lowers the life, While faith lifts.
