NOTE: Because government restric tions on paper make impossible the enlargement of THE KING'S BUSI NESS, even when a particularly crowd ed issue, like this one, must be print ed, it is necessary to limit the de partments to smaller space. Hence one-half month of Devotional Head ings is offered this month.

have gone, never to corné back again. Position? That will have passed for ever. Pleasure and ease? They, too, will have gon<^ But there will be two things whiiS we shall value with all our being. The first is to know that we have done His will with our lives, and the second will be to know that there are precious souls standing around the throne that God used us to have a share in winning. —G. S. Graham. . Trust in God “Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of” (Gen. 22:2). The staggering nature of such a command can be understood only in the light of God’s already-made pledge to Abraham, that through Isaac the whole world should be blessed. The sacrifice called for was not merely that of a dearly loved son, but of the; spiritual hopes also upon which faith had been nourished.. . . Without ques tioning its unreasonableness, Abraham sets himself resolutely to obey the strange injunction. And along that pathway he learned lessons of God’s power exceeding everything he had ever known.—J. Stuart Holden. 14. Self-Giving “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matt. 16:24). Self-denial, which is the essence of surrender,' does not mean giving up things; it means giving up self. . . . The believer must lay his whole life on the altar, relinquish all rights to its control, and count himself hence forth and forever the Lord’s. Surrender is a painful act. It means separation; it means sacrifice; it means death. . . . It is one thing to give up the world; it is quite another thing to give up one’s self. Yet this is what the Master requires of His disciples. —George P. Pardington. 15. Without Ceasing “Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him” (Acts 12:5). God must give you first the vision and then the victory; first the blossom and the bud and. then the fruit; first the drama of prayer on the silent bat tle field of the heart and then the drama of history, working it all out in actual fulfillment before the world. May God give to each of us the vision, the passion,'the priesthood of Christ, and the fellowship of His suf ferings for His body the Church. — A. B. Simpson. 13.
