Bringing back the Buzz
for the Broadmoor!
My wife, Neleen, and I are extremely honored that you are considering this once-in-a-lifetime meeting to celebrate the 46th reunion of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. In 2021 during the original site visit, we went into the Golden Bee Bar on site which is a relocated 20th Century British Pub reassembled. When you walk in, they “flick” a bee sticker on you. The Bee has long been the symbol of The College to promote Board Certification. I took it as a sign that this is where our meeting should be. Nearly four years later with constant planning, we are on the verge of making history with the largest meeting ever for the College. Our new logo and seal incorporating the bee is a recognition of our past while we embrace the Future. According to Forbes Travel Guide, the Five-Star Broadmoor resort’s main campus is located on 5,000 acres in Colorado Springs. The resort offers many activities for its guests including fal - conry, pickleball, zip lining, world-class golf, paddle boating, swimming, tennis, fly fishing, even an onsite movie theatre, and so much more. Families will love ‘Play at the Broadmoor,’ which offers six lanes of bowling and a menu that offers choices for everyone. There is excellent hiking nearby. The Broadmoor Seven Falls is a must-visit, as is the famed Garden of the Gods red rock formations and the luxurious Colorado hotel is all within a few miles of the funky, small art town of Manitou Springs. Located here is The Broadmoor Manitou and Pikes Peak Cog Railway offering an unforgettable way to experience American’s Mountain during every season. There is also the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, created by Broadmoor’s founder, Spencer Penrose, a few minutes away by complimentary shuttle.
During your stay, you’ll learn little tidbits of the hotel’s early 20th-century history. When you walk into the original Broadmoor Main building, you’ll find an extensive 1,000-bottle collection of Prohibition-era wine and spirits (part of Penrose’s personal collection) encased in glass along the walls; a unique display dubbed “Bottle Alley.” Dr. Matthew Ng, our Scientific Chair, has put together a breakthrough scientific program which is the hallmark of the College meeting. Lecturers will come from all over the world; South Africa, Portugal, Canada, and the United States will all share their “Back to the Future” approach to contemporary orthodontic treatment. Our amazing 2024-2025 College Councilors have done tremendous work to bring the organization into the 21st century and all of us welcome you to the Broadmoor to continue to create memories that last a lifetime. We wish you safe travels to begin your adventure. Where we are going, we don’t need roads!!
