Michel Levert seeks harmony and teamwork gŏđŏ editionap.ca
HAMMOND | If elected, Michel Levert wants a return to peace and harmony at the council table and more attention paid to the needs of Clarence-Rockland’s citizens. The Hammond resident has filed his nomination papers and will challenge incumbent Coun. René Campeau for the Ward 7 seat in the October civic election. It will be his first time in the political arena but he said that he shares the feelings of many voters about the dissension and fighting between the factions at council. «There are so many arguments and disputes that have put a stop to any work that helps the city move ahead, « Levert said. «In my opinion, the problem comes down to the fact that our elected officials seem to be trying to manage the city instead of leaving that job to the staff. We have very competent people working here in the municipality. We should let them do their job. « At the start of his campaign, Levert noted that he has no specific council committee position in mind right now should he win the election. He wants to do more study first before nailing down his own ambitions as a newly-elected councillor. «I think it’s better to wait and see first what attracts my interest the most,» he said. «I want to see what committee, what kind of work, what issue, attracts me most. « The Hammond resident noted that he has experience in the construction sector and is
a certified building inspector. He also cited infrastructure as an area of interest for him. «Here (Hammond-Cheney) infrastructure is often a concern,» he said. «In town, you have nice roads and sidewalks, but in the country it’s not always the case. Yes, there have been some improvements in the past few years, but there’s still a lot more work to do.» One thing which Levert is concerned about is that Clarence-Rockland has both
the resources and the staff available to meet the needs of residents. «What I would like for the municipality is that it have the resources needed to deal with people’s problems. When the people call, if I am not able to respond to their concerns right at that moment, then I want to have someone available who is able to deal with the problem with as little delay as possible. « While he has no actual political
experience, Levert believes his background in customer service will translate well at the council table. For the past 17 years he had managed the Domaine Chez Philias in Hammond. «I know the people of Hammond and they know me. They know that I am a reliable person who will be able to do the things I say I will do. I’ve been very honest with all my clients and I have always been honest with everyone.
