CCORDING TO THE History Channel, the origins of Halloween may be traced back 2,000 years to the ancient

Celtic holiday of Samhain, which was held on October 31 on the eve of their new year. The Celts thought that the dead returned to earth that night, so they built bonfires and dressed up in costumes to scare away the spirits. Many people dress up in costumes and tell ghost and witch stories to commemorate Halloween’s traditions. Gloomy jack-o’-lanterns are carved out of pumpkins. Children trick- or-treat from home to house, knocking on doors and yelling “Trick or treat!” in the hopes of filling their bags with candy. You’ll need an awesome costume no matter how you choose to celebrate the Halloween season this year, whether it’s on Zoom or with a group of your pals in real life. One good thing this year— possibly the only one—is that fabric face masks make wonderful costumes while lowering the chance of virus transmission, especially when paired with plenty of handwashing, social distancing, and other measures. Halloween is a celebration of all things scary, and it’s accompanied by a few strange traditions in the United States, such as trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving. Here are some intriguing facts regarding how some of today’s customs began, as well as some other amusing facts about the occasion. Now, here are ten fun facts you didn’t know about halloween.
