SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
Sofitel London St James is a five-star luxury hotel located in the centre of London, minutes away from Buckingham Palace. Our hotel is committed to achieving best practices for environmental and social sustainability. We have been certified by Green Key, a leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. Additionally, we are aiming to get Earth Check certified in 2024. The striking Grade II listed building, originally designed to house the headquarters of Cox and King’s Bank in 1923, became a flagship Sofitel in 2002. In addition to its 183 rooms, Sofitel London St James is also the home to the Rose Lounge, St James Bar, our award-winning spa and Michelin-starred restaurant Wild Honey St James. We recognized that such daily activities and operations have the potential for negative side effects on the environment/community if not properly managed and are devoted to making a change. An appointed Sustainability Committee is responsible and engaged to enhance the hotel's sustainable practices by conducting monthly audits and target areas where there is room for improvement. In 2022, Sofitel London St James successfully eliminated all single-use plastic in our rooms. In order to achieve our goals, we are committed to making every part of our organization more sustainable, with a focus on improving our energy efficiency, and we make our efforts concrete by doing annual measurements and benchmarks. By creating actions based on the yearly measurements and benchmarks we ensure that we continually improve. We give special consideration to empowering local suppliers, and wherever possible sustainable products and services are sourced locally in accordance with the Fair Trade principles. Sofitel London St James presents its Sustainability commitment to all key stakeholders, including staff, guests, suppliers and contractors. We use six sustainability pillars as a framework to set goals and monitor our progress in social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and prosperity. Sofitel London St James is working hand-in-hand with Accor to tackle sustainability matters through our Green team, which is a committee that drives sustainability throughout the hotel. Lastly, we are compliant with all legal obligations and labour laws, as per national obligation. And we ensure that we create a staff base that is international but lives in close proximity to the hotel, to reduce the carbon emissions for the commute of our staff.
