Sofitel London St James is a five-star luxury hotel located in the centre of London, minutes away from Buckingham Palace. Our hotel is committed to achieving best practices for environmental and social sustainability. We have been certified by Green Key, a leading standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism industry. Additionally, we are aiming to get Earth Check certified in 2024.

Sustainability Policy

Located in the heart of London, just moments from Buckingham Palace, Sofitel London St James is a five-star hotel where timeless elegance is complemented by a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. Set within our Grade II listed building on Waterloo Place, we balance historic heritage with responsible, forward-thinking operations. Across our 183 rooms and suites, and throughout our distinctive venues, including the Rose Lounge, St James Bar, our award-winning spa, the Michelin-starred aWild Honey St James, and sister concept Bistrot at Wild Honey, sustainability is integrated into the guest experience and embedded in our daily practices. Our leadership in sustainable hospitality is reflected in our Green Key and EarthCheck Silver accreditation, which provide globally recognised frameworks for continuous environmental performance improvement. A dedicated Sustainability Department oversees the implementation of our strategy, conducting annual data reviews to set clear targets and drive measurable progress in energy efficiency and carbon reduction, water conservation, waste reduction and recycling, and responsible sourcing. Working closely with Accor and our in-house Green Team, we continuously develop and monitor our Corporate Social Responsibility objectives, ensuring environmental considerations are integrated into operational decision-making, such as prioritising partnerships with local, sustainable, and Fairtrade suppliers wherever possible. At Sofitel London St James, 96% of our team members live within London, supporting the local economy while reducing commuting-related environmental impacts. Yet sustainability extends beyond our walls to meaningful community engagement. Our team proudly supports local charities through volunteering and donations with Charity Begins at Home, and by partnering with Room to Reward. Sofitel London St James operates in full compliance with all applicable legal and labour requirements and upholds the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and human rights in line with Accor’s global commitments. Energy and Water Efficiency:

We have installed LED lighting throughout the building Tracking and reporting our energy and CO₂ emissions We reduce the washing of towels and linen to every two days (unless requested by guest) Use of a Building Management System to understand and more efficiently control our energy usage Measures are in place to optimise water use in the jacuzzi and reduce overall water consumption Responsible linen management within our spa to reduce laundry volume and environmental impact
