size and greater than 200 meters wide. Esri created these data following a methodology outlined by the Green Infrastructure Center Inc. These data were generated using 2019 National Land Cover Data. Cores were derived from all “natural” land cover classes and excluded all “developed” and “agricultural” classes including crop, hay and pasture lands. The resulting cores were tested for size and width requirements (at least 100 acres in size and greater than 200 meters wide) and then converted into unique polygons.” General mapping steps Plant analysis • Use the NC Natural Heritage Program distributed EO dataset for the plant analysis. • Only keep records that are plants, with an accuracy of low or better, and with a status that includes only Endangered, Threatened, Special Concern-Vulnerable, Special Concern-Historical. • Further limit the plant records to those with a last observed date of the year 2000 or more recent by making a new numeric field from the Last_Obs field. This is a text field, but for the records that we want to keep, the text field always starts with the year. • Associate the Heritage data with the intact habitat cores using an interact spatial join. Animal analysis • Use the NC Natural Heritage Program point and line Source Features for the animal analysis. • Buffer both points and lines by 90 m so that we can combine them and account for potential spatial accuracy issues. • Retain only records that are animals and have an accuracy of medium or better. • Further narrow down above polygonised animal data by retaining only records with global, state, or intraspecific taxon conservation ranks of critically imperiled, imperiled, or vulnerable. These rankings correspond to the values S1, S2, or S3 in the S_Rank field and the values G1, G2, G3, T1, T2, or T3 in the G_Rank field. • Continue narrowing down the polygonised animal data by retaining only records with a last observed date of the year 2000 or more recent by making a new numeric field from the DESCR field. This is a text field, but for the records that we want to keep, the text field always starts with the year. • Associate the Heritage data with the intact habitat cores using an intersect spatial join.
