4.2.4.6.5 Conservation Programs and Partnerships Conservation programs, incentives, and partnerships should be fully used to preserve high-quality resources and protect important natural communities. Protective measures that use existing regulatory frameworks to protect habitats and species should be incorporated where applicable.

Priority Conservation Action, Examples of Focal Species or Focal Habitats • Promote efforts to control stormwater management point source pollution.

• Land use planning and zoning laws are needed to guide development, land clearing activities, and hydrology alterations within floodplains. Planning such as this may, for example, route highways and other corridors that cross floodplains as closely as possible to existing corridors to avoid fragmenting an extensive corridor of forest.
