Chapter 6 Conservation Goals and Priorities
transportation planning processes for new roads, widening or significant realignment of existing roadways, and bridge and culvert replacements. • Duke University’s Nicholas Institute for Energy, Environment & Sustainability provides a Nature Activation Hub that identifies opportunities to implement nature-based solutions. The Hub is organized by focal areas for mapping and planning, monitoring and evaluation, implementation, financing, and streamlining data. The website also provides information about the National Ecosystem Services Partnership. • The NCWRC and NCDOT will jointly foster stewardship through projects that support habitat connectivity and wildlife conservation. One project in the Wildlife Stewardship MOU involves creating a tool to collect data on wildlife-vehicle collisions. This tool will be integrated into NCDOT's data platforms for use in traffic safety and conservation evaluations. It will build on existing data to identify key wildlife-vehicle conflict areas, helping to quantify, prioritize, and reduce these conflicts.
Sections 6.4 through 6.9 highlight federal and state agencies, organizations, and initiatives that are key partners for implementing the conservation goals of this Plan.
