the historic range while also supporting local restoration activities. The Coalition was formalized in 2010 and provides the state/local level leadership called for in the regional plan.
Participants in the Coalition include multiple state agencies (NCFR, NCWRC, and NCNHP) and federal agencies (USFWS, USFS, NRCS, and the NC Commander’s Council, representing multiple military services). The Coalition is rounded out by multiple nonprofits, consulting foresters/landowners, academics, and other Longleaf proponents. The Coalition coordinates closely with on-the-ground restoration efforts including the NC Sandhills Conservation Partnership, the Onslow Bight Conservation Forum, and the CFACC. PARC is organized into five officially recognized regional working groups that serve as the operating entities of the PARC network. North Carolina is within the Southeast regional work group, SEPARC. There are also eight recognized chapters and subunits that includes NCPARC, the state’s chapter of PARC. The mission is to conserve amphibians and reptiles and their habitats through partnerships with academia, state and federal agencies, research facilities, nature education centers, land trusts, municipalities, zoos, veterinary fields, forest products industries, energy cooperatives, conservation organizations, herpetological societies, pet trade industries, museums, and even communities and neighborhoods. NCPARC believes that the successful conservation of amphibians and reptiles can only be accomplished by joining forces to combine the expertise and resources of a multitude of individuals and organizations. This effort includes technical working groups that facilitate herpetological conservation by addressing research, inventory and monitoring needs, policy, regulation and trade issues, and education and outreach objectives. NCPARC is a unique conservation network because it includes conservation of all reptiles and amphibians; is focused on conserving the habitats required for survival; includes all individuals, organizations, and agencies that have an interest in reptile and amphibian conservation; and focuses not only on endangered and threatened species but also on keeping common native species common. Additional information is available from its website https://ncparc.org. 6.9.12 NC Partners In Flight (NCPIF) Partners in Flight (PIF) is a network of numerous partner organizations engaged in all aspects of landbird conservation. The Eastern Working Group of PIF combines several regional PIF groups into one cooperative partnership that facilitates coordinated, regional-scale implementation of research, monitoring, and management activities.
