and South Carolina). Successful stockings in the Broad, Ogeechee, and Ocmulgee rivers in Georgia, and the Broad and Wateree rivers of South Carolina, have reestablished historical populations. SASMI was formed out of regional conservation efforts of the Southeast Regional Partnership for Planning and Sustainability (SERPPAS), a collaboration of leaders from the Department of Defense military services, state agencies, and federal natural resource, wildlife, and ocean working lands agencies. SASMI’s goal is to enhance the long-term abundance, health and resilience of salt marshes within the South Atlantic states to ensure no overall loss of the benefits these wetlands provide to fish, wildlife and people. Members of the the SASMI coalition collaboratively developed a regional conservation plan (SASMI 2023) to sustain salt marshes in the face of increasing threats from sea level rise, extreme storm events, and development. The plan provides a pathway to the protection, restoration, and migration of salt marsh ecosystems. Additional information, as well as access to download the plan, is available online https://marshforward.org/sasmi-plan. The North Carolina Coastal Federation and SASMI have developed a state-focused salt marsh conservation plan, the North Carolina Salt Marsh Action Plan (NCCF 2024). This conservation plan provides a five-year strategy to protect, restore, and provide a pathway for salt marsh migration in coastal North Carolina. More information and access to download the North Carolina plan can be found on the website https://www.nccoast.org/resource/nc-salt-marsh- action-plan-2024. 6.9.19 Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership (SARP) The Southeast Aquatic Resources Partnership (SARP) is a regional collaboration of natural resource and science agencies, conservation organizations, and private interests developed to strengthen the management and conservation of aquatic resources in the southeastern United States. The mission is to work with partners to protect, conserve, and restore aquatic resources including habitats throughout the Southeast for the continuing benefit, use, and enjoyment of the American people. This mission is achieved through the support and facilitation of on-the- ground and in-the-water, science-based action to improve and protect aquatic habitats and resources. Efforts are focused on habitat assessments, restoration actions, monitoring, and evaluation of some of the nation’s most economically and socially significant aquatic habitats.
