Subject: Revised State Wildlife Action Plan

Dear Director Briggs,

The North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF) submits this letter of support for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission’s (WRC) revised draft of the State Wildlife Action Plan, for submission to U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in compliance with the federal 10-year review process. NCWF is a conservation organization comprised of wildlife experts, affiliates, and a grassroots network of supporters with the mission to protect, conserve, and restore North Carolina wildlife and habitat. NCWF commends WRC staff on the quality of the revised plan, and the extensive and thorough outreach WRC undertook to engage stakeholders and encourage public and partner participation in the revision process. WRC is outstanding at fulfilling their mission and we are proud to work directly with the agency on the goals laid out in the revised Plan. As a partner dedicated to wildlife and habitat conservation, this draft provides a blueprint for how we can engage with our state wildlife agency and other partners to meet the needs of all species through habitat work, science-based management and decision making, and education and outreach. Specifically, NCWF is focused on promoting and assisting Species of Greatest Conservation Need through impactful habitat work and partnerships. Use of this single, comprehensive plan will help unite agencies, academia, NGOs, and other groups to not only work together to mitigate threats to wildlife like road mortality, habitat loss, and fragmentation, but also to take proactive steps to enhance and restore habitat for wildlife, increase biodiversity, and protect and conserve North Carolina’s natural resources for all.

Sincerely,

Tim Gestwicki Chief Executive Officer North Carolina Wildlife Federation
