Texting 911 will be the next step for emergency service calls. Michel Chrétien, Prescott-Russell emergency services director, in a report to the emergency service committee, borrowed a Star Trek reference when he described text messaging as the “Next Generation” version of 911 service, as mobile phone systems become more sophisticated. Text messaging is growing in popularity for private chats via mobile phone, or when noisy surroundings make it difficult to hear someone while speaking on a phone– Gregg Chamberlain

La Police provinciale de l’Ontario (PPO) enquête sur un incident à Curran au cours duquel un homme a été blessé par balle. Les policiers du détachement de Hawkes- bury de la PPO ont répondu à un appel vers minuit le 27 juin. Ils ont été dépêchés à une résidence sur la route de comté 11 près du village de Curran dans le canton d’Alfred-Plantagenet.

Police are investigating a June 27 incident near the Village of Curran in which one man was shot and two other people also suffered injuries. Authorities had closed part of Concession Road 8, leading to Curran, for several hours. Ils ont trouvé trois personnes blessées, dont un homme qui semblait avoir été blessé par balle. Il a été transporté à l’hôpital pour le traitement de blessures mettant sa vie en danger. Un autre homme a également été trans- porté à l’hôpital pour le traitement de bles- sures mettant sa vie en danger, bien que le dossier d’incident de la police ne précise pas la nature des blessures. Une femme aurait également subi des blessures graves, mais
sa vie ne serait pas en danger. La nature de ses blessures n’a pas été précisée. Le rapport d’incident de la PPO indique qu’il n’y a aucune raison de s’inquiéter pour le public. L’inspecteur de police James Gorry dirige l’enquête en cours. Quiconque possède des renseignements susceptibles d’aider la police peut commu- niquer avec la PPO au 1-888-310-1122, ou avec Échec au crime, au 1-800-222-8477.
