For Steven New, music is in the DNA. His passion was sparked early during monthly family jam sessions, watching his grandfather, dad, and six uncles fill the room with song. After picking up the tuba in junior high and learning bass guitar from his best friend, Steven traded brass for basslines and hit the local Southern California rock scene. He turned that lifelong passion into a career, earning both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Southern California, where his studies included Jazz pedagogy. After 20 rewarding years of teaching music, retirement hasn’t slowed him down-he continues to rock out with local bands and lay down rhythm in Jazz with Harvey and Friends.
