Genetic Opportunity Angus - 4th Annual Bull Sale [3/16/26]

Welcome to the sale Fellow Cattle Producers:

On behalf of the Cox and Medeiros families, we would like to invite and welcome you to our Annual Genetic Opportunity Angus Bull Sale.

The last couple years have truly been a blessing, and all indicators suggest continued strong times ahead in the cattle business. We have seen record prices for feeder cattle, with new highs seemingly set every week. We are proud to offer this set of bulls to the public. We work hard to produce a stout, functional group of bulls that will generate feeder cattle capable of capturing these record prices. With cow herd numbers at all-time lows, there has never been a better time to invest in quality genetics. A review of feeder cattle sale reports clearly shows that high-quality, uniform cattle are commanding a premium.

It certainly is a Happy New Year for the cattle industry. When I was in North Platte this week, I visited with one of our good feedlot customers who had sold his fat cattle last week for $200. Historically the highest live price ever paid. This morning my good friend Britty Pratt is reporting fat cattle sales at $203. We won- dered if prices for feeder cattle paid during the summer and fall would be justified when we entered the winter marketing period. Obviously, the feeders made a good bet on the market. This is especially true when the futures market has been lagging behind the live market all summer and fall. The feeder cattle market is following the fat cattle market sharply higher with the cash index for feeders averaging over $272. The market for lighter weight stockers is also historically very strong. What is the outlook for our Spring Market? In my opinion, it should be clear sailing. We live in tumultuous times and we don’t have a crystal ball but we are dealing with reduced numbers of both fat cattle and feeders. We have a new administration that wants to restore prosperity to America’s economy. It appears that the public’s appetite for our prod- uct is very good and hopefully we can sustain the retail prices we are seeing now. Many of us will not market our cattle for another 4 to 7 months. So how do we take advantage of today’s strong market? Fortunately, we have some useful tools at our disposal. You can sell them now for later delivery through Western Video Market. This is one advantage WVM offers that we don’t always take advantage of. You can sell the futures market but there are pitfalls that make this a less desirable method of price protection. You can get fairly good price protection through PPI contracts offered by WSR. This is the same outfit that offers the rain insurance that many of us have been glad to have over the last decade. As I said I truly believe fundamentals indicate we’ll have a very good market at least through the first six months of 2025 and probably beyond. Another thing to consider is whether to sign up for the many value added programs. These programs have been very beneficial to many of our consignors. There is a cost involved but if your cattle qualify and you are willing to keep track of the paper work, these programs usually give our sellers a premium over non-program cattle. It does require more management, but I recommend for some, not all of our consignors to consider signing up. This is the first of what I hope will be many market updates through 2025. If you have any questions concerning the points put forth in this update, feel free to call me any time. Wishing you all a happy and prosperous New Year.

We stand behind these bulls 100%. If you ever have an issue, please contact us and we will make it right.

We invite you to join us on Sunday, March 15, in the afternoon—the day before the sale—for soup and refreshments while you view the bulls. The bulls are always available for inspection, so feel free to stop by at any time.

We sincerely appreciate our past and future customers, and we thank you for choosing our program for your herd sire needs.

Very best regards, David & Carol Medeiros
