T he Sisters and Brothers of Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star met in Baton Rouge for our 15 th Mid - Winter Conference. Mid - Winter Conference is our mini conference where we focus on learning, practical instruction, and fun fellowship for our members throughout the jurisdiction. It is an opportunity for questions to be asked and answered in a more relaxed environ- ment than the Annual Session. Mid - Winter kicked off on Thursday with the Deputies lunch and meeting where various agenda items were discussed about happenings throughout the Districts and upcoming session in- formation. Some of the evening workshops included the fol- lowing: Past Matrons & Patrons Council, Worthy Patrons, Worthy Matrons, Associate Matrons, Youth Fra- ternity, and rehearsal for Grand Amaranth. The evening festivities included our Chat & Chew so- cial where the theme was “ Let ’ s Go Back to the Landmarks ”. Teams were created and prizes giv- en as they answered OES trivia questions. We ended the evening with some line dance instruc- tion organized by the Chat & Chew committee. You can find some additional videos and photos on our Facebook page here. Day 2 of the conference, our Grand Officers offi- cially opened in ritualistic form. The first half of the day was spent doing degree work. We had many candidates from the numerous Districts pre- sent to receive their 1 st , 2 nd , 3 rd ,
Friday night our Mid - Winter Social Committee took us on a fantastic voyage with the theme ‘ EGC Goes Cruising ’. It was a night filled with fun performances from the Districts, song rendi- tions from Larry Ellis ‘ The Voice ’, and an African tribal dance by Breon Terrance. Saturday we closed out the conference with a Prayer Breakfast and some reminders and ques- tions during the general session. Our Grand Web- master and the EGC Tech Team gave a demon- stration and answered questions for the new Chapter Helper membership database system which is being rolled out for the Grand Chapter state wide. The 15 th Mid - Winter Conference was an awesome meetup and a great time was had by all who at- tended. We are looking forward to seeing every- one back next year.
