SPP ESD 02

COMPANY HISTORY:

1961 For the next 50 years Pulsometer maintained its reputation for products of exceptionally high quality and reliability. Then, in 1961, Pulsometer Engineering joined the Booker McConnell Group along with another pump company, Sigmund Pumps of Gateshead. This combination created one of the largest pump companies in Europe, which became known as Sigmund Pulsometer Pumps, or SPP for short. 1986 After a number of changes in subsequent years, SPP Pumps acquired Henry Sykes plc in 1986. This acquisition further expanded the product range with the addition of vacuum assisted self-priming pumps. It was around this time that SPP Pumps moved it’s manufacturing site from Reading to a more modern facility in Coleford, in the West of England, where it is today. A signicant investment was made in machine tools and buildings to create a state of the art manufacturing facility. The facility doubled in size and was opened in November 1987 by Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal. 1988 With never a dull moment in SPP Pumps‘ history, 1988 saw a takeover with the Braithewaite Group. This was followed with SPP Pumps being acquired by the TBG group in 1989 and the subsequent incorporation into Sterling Fluid Systems. 2002 PRESENT In 2002, SPP Pumps separated from the Sterling Fluid Systems Group and in 2003 were taken over by their current parent company, Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL). With the investment and knowledge passed down by KBL, twinned with the experience and expertise of all members of the workforce, SPP Pumps continue to go from strength to strength. SPP Pumps is now a truly global company with main R&D, manufacturing and test facilities centrally located in the UK and local sites in the United States, India, France, South Africa, Singapore, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. FUTURE With a heritage to be proud of and extensive application experience and engineering skills, SPP Pumps will continue to maintain its reputation for quality and value ensuring that all market and customer needs are met.

1875 SPP was founded in 1875 when a British Engineer bought the patent rights of the Pulsometer Pump from an American, Thomas Hall. From this deal came the birth of the Company as it is known today. 1878 The story continues when, in 1878, a new company was formed “The Pulsometer Engineering Company Ltd”. The pump range was continually expanded and it was as a pump manufacturer that the Company became best known. With this increase in product range and trade all over the world, a larger factory was found and set up in Battersea, London. 1901 In 1901, the Company moved from London to new premises at a site in Reading, UK. By now Pulsometer was a name well established and respected across the world as a leading manufacturer of pump equipment.
