If you have the budget and the time, you might want to envisage a complete remod- el, where everything is demolished and you start from zero. Alternatively, you might want to consider a more modest project, where you keep the original position of the bathroom fittings and update the faucets, install a heated floor, and add a few extra cabinets or shelves. Many people take advantage of a complete remodel to enlarge the existing bathroom by adding part of an adjacent room.

Water consumption should be taken into consideration when choosing bathroom fittings, as well as the comfort of the seat and height of the toilet. Do you prefer the standard height of between 35 and 38 cm, or the “comfort” height, which is between 40 and 43 cm? The latter is ideal for tall people and those with back or leg problems. When shopping for faucets, opt for good quality hardware with a chrome or stainless steel finish. If you’d like to incorporate the very latest in bathroom designs, keep in mind that recessed lighting is in style. As well as being more discreet, these fixtures also give more subdued lighting. Or how about a suspended linen closet, which can be a perfect place to store towels and beauty products? Recessed shelves in the shower are another cur- rent trend and are very useful for holding soaps and shampoos.

Le secret, pour être un excellent charpentier, c’est d’apprendre à toucher et à aimer le bois. Certains charpentiers chevronnés résument l’idée ainsi : «Aime la matière et la matière t’aimera!»

Expert dans la conception de charpentes sur mesure, il dessine et fabrique des éléments porteurs, des toitures. Il peut également être appelé à réaliser des fenê- tres, des escaliers ou des planchers. L’un des principaux attraits de ce métier repose sur la variété des tâches à effectuer pour concré- tiser le travail. Et aujourd’hui, être charpentier permet autant de manier les outils traditionnels du bois que de piloter des machines à comman- de numérique. Dessiner, scier, assembler, voilà certains aspects de ce métier qui touche plusieurs types de cons- truction : maisons, chalets, hangars, mobiliers urbains, etc. Le charpentier peut également inter- venir dans le domaine de la restauration de monu-
