YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH Pearland Parks & Recreation offers a wide variety of programs for youth. Programs are targeted for Early Childhood (ages 9 months–5 years), Youth (ages 6-12 years) and Teens (ages 13-18 years). Our objective for Early Childhood classes is to provide small group classes that focus on enhancing the mental, physical and emotional well-being of a child in a fun and safe environment. The Youth programs focus on providing a variety of opportunities to learn something new that encourages growth and responsibility while discovering a new interest. Our Teen program’s objective is to provide an outlet and foundation that will allow participants to develop a positive identity and social competencies in a safe and supportive environment.
YOUTH ACTION COUNCIL (YAC) The Youth Action Council (YAC) serves as the voice of the Pearland teen community and promotes youth leadership and responsibility through services and community involvement. In YAC, everyone has an equal voice in the decision-making process. This structure allows for the free sharing of ideas and open discussion so that we can best represent the teen community. YAC members have also designed an application process and peer-interview process for becoming a member. We focus on quality over quantity when it comes to membership and allow current members to decide who is the right fit for the current council. To be eligible to become a member of YAC, you must be a Pearland resident between the ages of 12 and 18. Applications are accepted year-round, however peer- interviews are conducted only in September and January. Benefits of Becoming a YAC Member ■ Represent your community
