in motion Pearland FALL 2020
HELLO, PEARLAND!
Lately, things have been uncertain; we have all been working to keep healthy and safe by adapting to the COVID-19 world. Like restaurants in the rest of the country, Pearland restaurants have modified their operating procedures. Practically all businesses have adopted new operating guidelines. Most meetings and many classrooms

have moved online. At your local City government, we have taken extraordinary steps to keep our community and our employees safe. All the while, we continue to deliver, albeit perhaps in a different form, the public safety, water and wastewater, road and drainage and other services upon which you rely. In all this uncertainty, two things remain constant--our communications such as this publication and the people who pour themselves into the work of public service. We have great colleagues here--the Parks & Recreation teammembers have been especially creative in finding ways to engage with a community they are used to seeing in person daily. On our Pearland Parks & Recreation Facebook page, we have uploaded virtual group fitness videos and Camp at Home 2020 videos for all to enjoy. Employees at the Knapp Activity Center have taken to the streets to deliver meals to residents who would normally eat at the Center and events like Sunset Cinema (a drive-in concept where visitors can get out while still socially distancing) are being tested and are well-received. There is an air of excitement and an appetite for innovation that could only be created out of necessity. So, we are innovating this publication as well. We are taking this opportunity to show off more of the “team behind the scenes” in addition to programs currently available, because this publication typically focuses on program offerings. This has been a challenging time in many ways and for many people, but when I look at the community and engagement with City staff I am encouraged and optimistic about the future. Join me in my optimism! I hope you enjoy this latest edition of Pearland in Motion .
