T H E K I N G ’S ■ B ü S I N E S S given to the unconverted Jews present, to accept Christ as their Messiah. A Jewish lad of about 13 or 14 years of age arose, unnoticed by the speaker, and remained standing until recognized. When the meeting was dismissed, the writer talked' with this young lad and asked him if he clearly understood the nature of the invitation that had been given. His replies were so entirely sat isfactory that the worker was overjoyed. He was given a New Testament, which he carefully hid away- in an inner pocket. The worker smiled as he noted the action, which foretold the opposi tion of Jewish parents at home, but curious to hear what the lad would say, he asked, “Why such elaborate pains to hide away the Testament?” With a hoy’s characteristic brevity he replied, “ Safety First!’’ : : He was present at the last Jewish meeting, and gave a wonderful testi mony, and a very intelligent account of how he was led to accept Christ as his Saviour. His father (in spite of the pre cautions 'taken) discovered the Testa ment and destroyed it. Prayer is needed for this dear lad as he faces severe per secution in his own home. SPANISH WORK Robert H. Bender, Superintendent. This includes Gospel meetings, Sunday School classes and house-to-house visita- tion among the fifty thousand Spanish- speaking people in Los Angeles and vicin ity, "And let us not be weary in w ell doing; fo r in due season we shall reap if we faint not.” , , “Be ye steadfast, unmovable, always abounding in the w ork of the Lord, fora s much as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” HIS exhortation from God’s Word is a source of courage and strength to the missionary to an alien race. There is so ! much to discourage and dis hearten when we deal with the Mexican people, for many are not only super stitious and ignorant, but worse than all, we find so many that .are illiterate and consequently their minds are un developed. More than that, in nearly every camp and colony we find the men given over to gambling, both with cards and dice, so that many times it is with difficulty that we get their attention. Nevertheless, as we have proceeded with our singing and preaching we have seen the gambling rings disband and one and all turn and listen to us as we preach

the Gospel.: : If it were not ''fo r the knowledge'of God’s words such as head this article, we surely would have given up in despair long ago, but we praise God that-in spite of these discouraging conditions, we have seen some precious fruit. In my article of last month I mentioned a young man who was con verted last summer in one of the camps and is now helping a lady missionary in Kansas among the Mexican men there. Since then we have had word from him stating he is now in a Bible School in Oklahoma, fitting himself for the work of the Lord. More recently we have received letters from a convert in Ari zona and one in New Mexico who are studying the Bible and preaching to their own country-men. Surely this proves the efficacy and power of God’s Word. It is a question of serious thought on the part of Christian people. Are we going to allow the immigrant and his children to drag our children down to their own condition, or are we going to put within their reach that which will uplift and make them safe as neighbors? , We must reach these people and in or der to do so, we need buildings and equipment. I wonder if our American people realize the menace the immigrant has brought to our land, ^in dragging down our ideals and morals. The only way our Puritan standards can be pre served is through the determined efforts of Christian missionaries who will win the confidence of our new neighbors through love and real consecration. SHOP WORK Marlon H. Reynolds, Superintendent Th irty-tw o m eetings are being held each week in the various shops, fa c tories, car-barns and engine houses of the city, in addition to which the superintend ent of the w ork visits many of the men in +V»hnmps TILL the work goes on, in tne shops, factories, carbarns and lumber yards in the city here. ; Little do we realize the good that is being done, as the mes sage of Jesus is proclaimed to the men where we' go. After all, it is not Mir business to see the results, but it doe», behoove us to be faithful in the work He has called us to do. However, God in His Infinite mercy does encourage us, by showing us here' and there, results that have come from the faithful sow-
