Pomislim svaki dan da mi gluma nije trebala u životu. Velika radost bi mi bila da sam baštovan Every day I consider that I never needed acting in my life. It would be a great joy for me to be a gardener

my mature years I began to wonder about man’s need to devote himself to such a life and to move closer to God. There is no end in that space. I most commonly talk to my- self there, and I can always hardly wait to re- turn. I talk to myself there even when I’m in some other place.

THIS WORLD IS A TYRANT TO THE TYRANT

- Njegoš said: This world is a tyrant to the tyrant. In such a world as this and times like these, no one can live like a kidney in fat. People exclude themselves from the circumstances by preferring to see them- selves as victims of time and confronting that. And they do little to improve the world in which they nd themselves. And then we have a tendency to blame the times, other people, politics, crisis etc. That is all both- ering, but what have we done as individu- als in that which we could? The individual needs to exert eort in the space given to him. Everyone errs every day. I believe that we all have a lot of space to create, rst and foremost relationships with the people clos- est to us. Constantly demanding a greater and better measure of humanity towards oneself and others is not harsh. And we of- ten don’t do that either regarding ourselves or those we claim to love. I HAVE FIVE CHILDREN AND FIGHT FOR OUR TIME TOGETHER - I try not to impose my authority over them, but rather to give them as many rea- sons for self-conception as possible, and to help them achieve that. My daughter Jana (18) plays the piano and gives perfor- mances. My son Vidan (17) is interested in IT and basketball, Bogdan (15) is dedicat- ed to music and Kalina (9) is interested in everything, and reminds me that most of myself. My daughter Ilina (7), who starts rst grade in September, enjoys singing. I hope not to recognise an actor in any of them. I wouldn’t like my kids to go through the things that my wife and I, as actors, went through. I try to dedicate every free mo- ment to them and I ght to secure time for us to be together. The burden of their upbringing fell mostly on their mother, but the quality of parenting isn’t only in the amount of time spent with them. My children are open and free and we dis- cuss all topics. They’ve been taught that everything can be resolved through con- versation, and that is essential to the pro- cess of maturing. I have the feeling that I’m never with them enough; I’ve some- how denied them myself, but I try to make that up to them.

DANCED FLAMENCO

parts of their novels by heart, they always encourage me afresh as an actor.

- As a boy I loved to draw, analyse per- spectives, play with paints on canvas. I also played guitar from second grade as an eight- year-old. I danced amenco. I always felt free in musical spaces. I also learned to play the pi- ano and compose. And then the acting path- way opened up to me, which combined all of my pursuits. Professor of literature Nataša Kovačevićopenedayouthdramastudiointhe theatre in my hometown of Kraljevo when I was 15. I liked watching adult plays from the fth grade, so I skipped the children’s reper- toire. The more I watched plays and partici- pated in work on them, the more interested I became in acting as a vocation. I performed for the rst time on 7 th February 1986, in a play composed of four Ionesco pieces, on the stage of the theatre in Kraljevo. I performed two roles: the professor and Mr Smith. I re- member myself like that, with a lot of inter- nalightandmomentum.EvennowIalways seek that incentive and usually nd it. However, every day I consider that I nev- er needed acting in my life. It would be a great joy for me to be a gardener and to have a garden to create.

I RESPECT STUDENTS WITH ALL MY MIGHT

I’ve led ve generations of acting stu- dents to date. I always tell them during the rst classes that I will respect them with all my might.ThismeansthatIwillexpectmorefrom them than from myself, and will use all means to seek to exceed and strengthen their poten- tial.Themostimportantthingisthattheylearn to question their creativity. The text for each role is endless fabric and no two performanc- es are the same. However, growing through questions regarding one’s own ability is the continuous and essential ow of progress. I try to love what I teach them. Humans are in- nite beings and the main factor is to con- stantly ask ourselves: what am I ready to give?

SWAT, IDLER AND OBSESSOR

- As a boy I was only a swat when it came to things that created an obsession in me and a desire to know about them. Accord- ing to the predispositions of my character I’m an idler. Acting bard Mihajlo Miša Jan- ketić said:‘I’m an idler who has worked a lot’. I nd myself in those words. The things that drive me lead me to research and to be a workaholic. Nothing will call you on its own. You need to open up to research. Russian director, producer and actor Nikita Mikhalk- ov said: One cannot simulate temperament. The same applies to a gift. It cannot be cre- ated if it does not exist, but - with a little tal- ent – a lot can be achieved through work and eort. And to sometimes grow more than someone who is very gifted but lazy.

MY ŽIČA

- The house of my grandfather on my fa- ther’s side was next door to the monastery. The house of my grandmother on my moth- er’s side is about 200 metres from the monas- tery. I spent many summers and winters near Metohija. The space around the monastery was inspiring to me, awakening in me many impulses. Like spaces that lure and entice you into the same nooks, to believe in the same trees. During that time this was more a sense of the spiritual atmosphere, and over time I recognised myself in that spiritual space. In
