This year's gala will be held on 13 th September as an intimate celebration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. What’s the theme? The 2021 gala is centred on the celebrating of Amer- ican fashion. Andrew Bolton, head curator of the Cos- tume Institute, believes it is time to re-examine Ameri- can identity and fashion, particularly given that they’ve changed in recent years. “I've been really impressed by American designers' responses to the social and polit- ical climate, particularly around issues of body inclu- sivity and gender fluidity, and I'm just finding their work very, very self-reflective,” he told Vogue. “I really do believe that American fashion is undergoing a Re- naissance. I think young designers in particular are at the vanguard of discussions about diversity and inclu- sion, as well as sustainability...” How will the exhibition look? The Costume Institute will actually present a two- part exhibition: “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”. The first
