U priči o srpskoj svadbi mesta za slučajnost nema, jer to je priča o tradiciji, o obrednim ritualima koji su se menjali, a ipak ostali do danas. To je priča iz davnih vremena, kad se za ljubav slabo pitalo jer se poštovao kult plodnosti

O na sva u belom, smeši se, a opet setna, lica prekrive- nog velom, u ruci joj bu- ket cveća. Svatovi se vese- le, svi okićeni ruzmarinom, nadmeću se da obore jabuku pred mladinom kućom. Kum spreman sa burmama, mladoženja doteran, cenka se i gurka sa njenim bratom, kupuje je od nje- ga da bi je potom preneo preko svog praga. Da bi bila njegova. Da bi žive- li srećno do kraja života. A odakle onaj veo i cveće, čemu baš ruzmarin, šta je ona jabuka na ka- piji, da li je baš sve slučajno? I eto, čini se spontano, ali u priči o srpskoj svad- bi mesta za slučajnost nema, jer to je priča o srpskom identitetu, o tradiciji, o obrednim ritualima, koji su se me- njali, a ipak ostali do danas. To je pri- ča iz davnih vremena, kad se za lju- bav slabo pitalo jer se poštovao kult plodnosti. S he’s all in white, smiling, yet melan- cholic, her face covered with a veil, holding a bouquet. Guests rejoice, decorated with rosemary, compet- ing to shoot down an apple in front of the bride’s house. The best man is ready with the rings; the groom is dressed in his best, haggling with her brother to buy her so he can carry her over his threshold, so she will be his, and they can live happily ever after. And where did that veil and flowers come from, why rosemary, what is that ap- ple for; is it all just like that? Though it may all seem spontaneous, the story of the Ser- bian wedding has no room for chance. This is a story of tradition and ceremonial rituals that have changed, yet remained the same; a story from long ago, when love was rare- ly sought, because the cult of fertility was respected. And today, as it once was, the wedding has traces of the magical and the religious, so the bride and groom are hap- py, healthy and productive. That’s why wed- ding day dos and don’ts have always been known, and every detail contains a story.
